Unable To Install The Cm-10.0.0-Galaxysmtd.zip Through Recovery

8 posts in this topic

Hi,

i'm trying to install Cyanogenmod 10 (cm-10.0.0-galaxysmtd.zip) on my Galaxy S i9000. I go into recovery wipe data/recovery and cache partition.

Then i Select install zip from sdcard, Select choose zip from sdcard.

Then it says on the screen:

-- Installing: /sdcard/zRoms/cm-10-0-0-galaxysmtd.zip

Finding update package...

Opening update package...

E:Can't open /sdcard/zRoms/cm-10-0-0-galaxysmtd.zip

(bad)

Installation aborted.

What am I doing wrong????

I flashed and rooted hundred of times, on several different devices and never came across that Error-Message.

Thanks for the held, I appreciate it.

That typically means the download is corrupt. Have you tried redownloading it and verifying the md5 hash once it is on the phone?

Thank You. I downloaded it again and verified the md5 hash, now it works.

But what I dont' get is, why the mod is running so awfully slow. Even when no apps are running in the background. Some things crash, others just open barely or very very slow.

Any tips or tricks?

I have 35 apps installed, and nothing else special.

Did you do a Factory Reset/Data Wipe when you installed CM? It is required when coming from stock.

Yes, I wiped everything. I came from MIUI and had to wipe everything and repartition is for CM 10. Another weird issue is that the Messaging App (SMS/MMS) won't open. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it, but it won't work. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Do you speak German, English is perfectly fine for me, but I saw that you moved from Germany to the US :-)

Did your wipe include a manual wipe of the /system partition? It could be issues with having MIUI installed before. Have you tried any newer CM 10.1 versions? CM 10.0 is quite old and is no longer being developed for your device.

And no, I don't speak German. I tried to learn German while I was there, but whenever I would try my German, people would respond back to me in English. After about 2 years of this crap, I gave up trying to learn it. Probably didn't help that I lived near Kaiserslautern, so with such a large American population, most local Germanys probably just thought was easier to speak English.

CM 10 was the newest Stable version I could find for my devices. I'm not sure how good the Nightly Builds are and I don't want to deal with issues they might have, same thing for M Snapshot versions. I just did the normal wipes through the recovery mode. How do I do a manual wipe of the /system partition?

Anything else that I should worry about before reinstalling the rom?

And thanks, again!

You can manaully format the system partition through the Mounts and Storage menu in recovery. And if you do that, mixed with a Factory Reset/Data Wipe, your phone will be completely clean (minus your sdcards).

As for 10.1, it has been running extremely smooth on my phone, and since you are having problems with the "stable" anyway, why not try a newer version? The M3 is more tested than nightlies, so that may be a better choice.
