I know that there is a lot of activity for the SGS2. However, as the T-Mobile version uses a different processor, are there any CM7 builds that support this variant?

the T-Mobile variant has the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 SoC - not the same. There are no CM7 builds for this.

Downloading the Samsung source now. Will have a crack at porting CM7, but this is going to be my first chef effort. Would appreciate any pointers. Just got my SGS2 a couple of days ago and the TMO bloatware is pretty annoying. Can't wait to make it go away. Was rockin an HD2 with CM7 (2.3.7) previously, but it suffered a hardware failure. I want back in to the pool! :)

Best,

Okay, so now that we have root.... on to the next step. CyanogenMod 7.1 on the T-Mobile Galaxy S II.

All aboard, buckle yourselves in, and get ready for the ride....

There doesn't appear to be much interest in porting for the T-MO variant. :(

I would love to see CM on it. Samsung claims to have sold 4M GSII handsets (including the SGH-T989). This device should be a huge priority for the team.

On the SGH-T989 the default launcher, lockscreen, messaging & keypad are all garbage, no video chat, no sip, tether is an "additional subscription service". The bloatware is annoying to say the least. I bought one with the hopes of installing CM on it and will return the device if I cannot. It's just that simple. When you get used to the best why bother with the rest!!!

I have a lot of respect apple for not allowing the providers to bastardize their devices and believe its one of the reasons leading to success of the device.

From looking on XDA, there were some people working on it, just nothing seems to have been posted on progress in the past week or so.

Maybe this stuff will be useful to some of you. Thank you so much to Slayher for getting us root. Bubby323 for everything he's done as far as insecure kernel and stock dumps...etc. AdamOutler and Entropy512 for their assistance and guidance. Teshxx for all of his contributions. Sammydr10 and LuckyDuck69 for throwing in their time and devices for the cause. Gosh... I think that covers most ppl. But thanks to everyone who helped to get the ball rolling for the T989.

[TUTORIAL] Flashing CWM and Rooting T-Mobile SGSII

First Things you need:

1. ODIN V1.8.4 or greater:

http://dl.dropbox.co...Odin3-v1.85.zip

4. Superuser.apk:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21231693/Superu ... signed.zip

And here we go:

1. Make sure windows recognizes your phone in ODIN. "adb reboot download"

-or- Turn phone off, and hold both Vol up + Vol down, and plug the USB cable in.

2. Select the PDA button and browse to the recovery-cwm-hercules.tar

3. Select Start

4. It should flash the file to Recovery and reboot the phone.

5. After it has rebooted, mount USB storage and copy the Superuser zip to the sdcard

6 Reboot into recovery "adb reboot recovery"

-or- Power off phone, unplug USB, Hold Both Vol up + Vol down and Hit power

7. Select Install zip from sdcard, choose the superuser zip and let it finish.

8. Reboot!

Have fun!

Coming from a G2x with Cm7 stable to my new SGS2...and now i really miss the extras of CM7. Especially DSP Manager.

I'm definitely going to donate to whoever can port CM7 over to the Tmo SGS2.

I've very interested in CM on the TMO SGS2. I enjoyed using it quite a lot on my EVO 4G.

Bump. I am retiring an original MyTouch 3G for a SGH-T989 today and look forward to putting CM7 on it. Consider this another vote.

LuckyDuck, thanks for the summary.
