I'm using CM7 on my Nook Color. I'm pretty sure I will be picking up the Boost Prevail in 2 weeks when I move. I'd love to use CM7 on it, or something similar. I hope this device gets very popular within the community.

Yeah! It would be awesome if they did! We need to rally all the Prevail users together to see what we can get! There is already a ROM floating around on android forums. We shall see!

I think as fast as these are selling and all the requests for "How to ROOT" that this phone is already getting out there. If you were to release CM7 or so for the Prevail word would travel faster than you think and donations would be coming in. People have already given to SHABBY's MOD.

I myself am new to this Rooting and Flashing ROM thing and would love to try what I have heard is the Greatest MOD out on my new Prevail.

TIA - Pete

Seeing a system update, and not wanting to run it, don't want it to take away root ability.

This phone is already popular. In the first couple of days of it's release, the two closest Best Buy stores to me were sold out. I already have the phone rooted only need a rom now. I would love to see cyanogen mod have support for the phone. I would donate right away.

If anyone has a backup of the stock rom, please post the update.zip (the version before the update). My backup got corrupted.

After looking at the specs on Samsungs page, I'm inclined to believe it may have been WiFi neutered though :(. Sounds like at least one of you own one of these bad boys, maybe you could enlighten me: Has the Prevail been neutered?

EDIT: Disregard all that. DL'ed the User Manual .pdf from samsung, and it makes mention of WiFi on the device (SPHM820ZKABST).

I rooted the prevail for a friend of mine, and now they say that wifi tethering quit working. I don't have the phone, but did an update come out that broke the root?

Yes, an update was released by Samsung that takes away your root access. I am very annoyed at it because you can't stop the Update Alerts. About 2-3 times a day when I unlock my phone I have the message come up informing me of an update.

REMEMBER: Always read the details before updating. To do this, just simply press the More Info button and it will give you a description of the update.

Alright thanks.

I did it for a friend of mines wife, he told me the wifi tether was no longer working but apparently she didn't tell him she had done an update :)

After the update can you just re root it the same way?

I installed the update and then re-rooted. I had to "prevail to existence" while the phone was booting up like the KMS readme mentions.

I am a happy owner of a Samsung Prevail, rooted, on ShabbyMod's .8 ROM. Loving it so far! I know that I speak for most Prevail users when I say that we'd be more than thrilled if we could get our hands on Cyanogenmod for our phones!

To everyone who has rooted their Galaxy Prevail and is looking for a good ROM, I highly recommend ShabbyMod. It works great and doesn't include the pre-installed annoying apps. I have not had a problem with it.

EDIT: OH forgot to say, it takes up a lot less memory than the stock does. There are two versions of ShabbyMod. One is Loaded which is 57MB and the Slim which is only 48MB. Stock is 87MB.

Does the fact that Samsung released the kernel for the Samsung Galaxy Prevail help us get CyanogenMod?

I would love to use clockwork and cyanogen on my Prevail!

It does help but the problem is the phone isn't popular enough yet. But give it some time. Its a great phone at a great price with a great plan available. Eventually more and more people will pick it up and maybe then, will it have the recognition it needs to Prevail.

An odin recovery has now been developed for this phone and a custom kernel has been started.

Odin information:

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/375550-odin-recovery-ed13.html

Custom Kernel:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-prevail/376559-absolutely-amazing-boost.html#post2962439

Warning: use the above at your own risk. Some users have had issues with the odin recovery and the kernel is still a testing kernel.

If anyone would like to help work on developing the kernel Join in on the IRC at:

http://www.fossnet.info/ pick a username and the channel is #prevail

For those using an IRC client it's the fossnet irc #prevail
