Samsung S3 tmo

Was running CM11 (Feb stable) for 6 months with few issues. Upgraded to M9 I discovered that my battery doesn't charge or charges super slow. I tried nailing down the repro steps and it seems that after a clean reboot it would charge very slowly but if I unplug and plug in again it says it's plugged in but doesn't actually charge. Tried multiple charges (plugs, USB) and have used a couple of apps to get voltage (3.5 to 4.1). The app says it's plugged in but "discharging". At first I thought the battery would only charge when off but have since discovered that it often doesn't charge at all even when off.

I've reset and cleared caches and tried M7, M8, and M9 with the same symptoms more or less.

Tried battery and same charger in another stock Samsung S3 - worked fine.

Please help. Loosing the fight and I dread the thought of returning to stock.

Thanks
Matt

I have been experiencing this for the last few days and didn't realize it may be a rom issue until you said something!  I updated to M9 without thinking and didn't notice charging issues.  I purchased the 7000ma zerolemon battery and thought the charging was related to that.  I swapped in my old battery and still same issue.  I tried various wires and switched multiple chargers to no avail.  I did borrow a co-workers samsung branded charger at work for a few minutes and that did seem to work.  Could the rom be limiting users to standard samsung chargers/cables?  Is that even possible?

I am currently using an older htc branded charger with a general cable and it seems to be working for now.

I hope this can get fixed; I bought a dual usb high speed wall charger and can't use it :(

I did notice we are both using T-Mobile; maybe that has something to do with it.

I also used my co-workers charger and it's a samsung. However, both my and his charger are samsung. I did get charged up but I think I'm in the camp of "the first time after a reboot" it charges. Don't know though. Going to try both cables tonight but I'm not going to believe the easy answer of "it's the cable", I'd bet it's not, just search the web - many people have had similar battery charge / slow charge for awhile.

Nice to know I'm not alone.

My S3 doesn't charge when powered off. It will display 100% battery, but drop down to 30% within 5 minutes.

I am going to try to get my battery to 20% and try to install slimkat.  Since I have the zerolemon, I am hoping it will be enough of a charge.  I will let you know what I find out.

My phone does the same thing on tmo; at least we know it isn't a carrier limitation but is spread across devices.

I'm trying a friend's Samsung charger. It might be working better but I've seen no difference between M7, M8, and M9 w.r.t battery and charging. Upon resetting or flashing I *think* it's fixed but within a day it doesn't charge. While I don't think the cables I'm trying are damaged, perhaps something in the kernel or CM is being more restrictive on the voltage/wattage in the charger. An old Windows phone charger used to work but now doesn't at all. Hmm...

**UPDATE**

I was able to install slimkat.  It seemed as thought the same charging issue was there.  I started teacher in-service days today and I went through my box of wires and found a Kyocera charger that fits really snug and seems to be charging it perfectly.  I am wondering if it was just a timing issue that my port was wearing out right around the same time I flashed M9.  I also tried a different charger I bought on amazon http://www.amazon.co...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1.  So many variables makes troubleshooting a pain.  Battery is still draining at a little over 1% an hour with minimal use.  That may normally seem great, but keep in mind I am using a 7000ma battery.

My main factor seemed to be finding a charger that fit EXTREMELY TIGHT in the charging port; wide black base. I did check at Dollar General and they have the style I think I need.

Hope this helps some!

UPDATE:

I'm calling my issue resolved. My friend's cable charged quickly and repeatedly. I ended up buying a new charging cable (by looking at my friends model number) for about $8. I also discovered that both my old car chargers worked and one was a combination car/outlet charger.  I'm not entirely convinced my issue was "just" the cables as cables that didn't charge my Samsung charge other non-Samsung devices.

However, for those of you experiencing this problem I hope you find this information a bit helpful.

I'm running M9 btw... going back to M7 or M8 didn't appear to have any effect.
