Is there a way to replace the 3D gallery with the 2D one? I tried adding it from CM 5.0.8 while deleting the 3D one but I can not set a wallpaper now. It just FC's when i click it.

If anyone has a fix for this I would appreciate it.

Yeah, I can post a proper Gallery2D for CM6 when I get home. I don't like 3D, it's too slow and I don't use the new 'features' anyway - so I've been replacing my Gallery3D with 2D for a while.

Thanks. I'll try it when I get home.
Do I have to install it after I push it to the system/app?

Nope, this push method will totally replace the old gallery3d application :D

I whole-heartedly agree!  The 3D gallery's a complete waste of effort on these devices.  It runs ok on mine now, but just barely.  I don't understand the need for all the flashy surroundings, other than to impress iFlop owners.

I don't get it
froyo 3D is SLOW, laggy and full of bugs
but Eclair 3D is just as fast as the stock 2D and works flawlessly

Anyone try this one. I got lazy and didn't post mine. I still can, but if this one works, I'm going to keep being lazy.

You said the push through adb will completely replace it, right? So does that mean when I try to access the gallery from the camera it will actually load it up?

with the adb commands you remove it and then copy the new file...and yes the gallery opens up when you access it through the camera...

If you can please post yours.
I tried this one but it still force closes when setting a wallpaper from pictures and clicking the little picture preview in the camera application does not bring up the gallery.

Finally!  Have been wanting to do this for ages.  I think it's even sped up the boot up of the camera app too...although might just be my imagination ;)

Thanks heaps!

Out of curiosity, do those of you who prefer 2D gallery generally have a lot of pictures on your sdcard?

I actually love the 3D gallery, and it works relatively flawlessly on my phone. i do however only have about 50 pictures stored locally and several hundred on my picasa sync. So the few pictures on the sdcard take little time to cache.

So tons of pics=bad performance? Or am I just lucky?

Btw those of you having issues with froyo 3d, I had the same thing, and it may be coincidental but I used firerats all in one and installed the lwp fix and noticed a huge improvement in other 3d utilizing applications. Looking at the script shows a lot of things in relation to the gpu, so might be worth a try.

Oh and are the majority of you g1 users? I'm generally on the online forums and can't see everyone's device type without clicking the individual profiles.

Actually, yeah, I have about 2 GB of pics on my phone (and knew that this would have been slowing down Gallery 3D).  Personally though, as pretty as Gallery 3D is, I prefer the simplicity of the 2D version.  Plus, as mentioned in my last post, it has significantly improved the startup performance of the camera (used to take about 15+ seconds to initialise, now takes about 2-3 secs so definitely wasn't my imagination).  Again, this is probably due to the amount of images I have.

Never thought to try Firerat's script.  Mind you, I don't use a lot of 3D apps (don't play many games on the phone etc).

Oh, and I have an HTC Magic (32b).

Yes I do have a lot of pictures. In addition to handling a large amount of pictures better, 2D gallery also generates thumbnails much faster for both low and high res pictures.

Personally I think the 3D gallery is just for looks and all the flashy animations are unnecessary, ultimately slowing the phone down, as it is a memory hog.

You can just go into Cyanogen Prefs > Previews > Uncheck Sense-like or rip it out with Root Explorer, both worked for me like a charm. :)
