[Request] Rom For Huawei U9508 Honor 2
Posted 22 January 2013 - 03:23 PM
Just visited in China and returned with the new Huawei U9508 Honor 2 - http://www.gsmarena....onor_2-5092.php
I wonder if someone plans to build a free ROM for it.
It is a truely exceptional hardware and performs accordingly, for a great price. However, Google play store is blocked and the phone is restricted to a chinese app store.
I would be glad to receive some advice how to root the device and install Google play.
Also would be glad to try building a Rom for it, if someone has a guidance.

Huawei has recently released the first official global release of the firmware for Huawei Honor 2. Firmware version V100R001C00B107 based on Android 4.0.4 with Google Apps, enabled and fully working Google Play, no chinease apps except Huawei AllBackup, you can find the firmware at the official Huawei web site - http://www.huaweidev...softid=NDcwNzM= There is an upgrade instruction in the archive with firmware image. Basically you have to put the UPDATE.APP file to your /sdcard/dload folder and launch the update process from "About phone - System update - Update from SD Card" or by turning on your phone (with "Fast boot" turned off) holding Volume UP and Volume DOWN keys until flashing procedure starts. This is the official method of upgrading the firmware on major Huawei phones, no custom recovery needed.
Also there is a chinease firmware based on Android 4.1.2 and Huawei's brand UI called EMUI but it still very "chinease" - no google apps at all, lots of chinease apps and bugs. It's not yet a major release and still in beta. However, there are already solutions on how to root 4.1.2 firmwares and how to enable google apps but I strongly recommend you to update to the official one. The only big issue for me is the battery consumption which is just enormous, apart that - the device works absolutely perfect. On the 4PDA.ru forum thread - http://4pda.ru/forum...howtopic=422282 - you can find additional tools for rooting your phone. Good if you understand russian, if not - google translate will help you.
IMHO even if Cyanogen Team will release CM for Honor 2 without deepsleep such firmware will be useless due that the smartphone has big battery consumption. Lucky chance if it's gonna work a day and a half despite the battery has 2150 mAh. Let's keep fingers crossed that Huawei will work hard on this issue !

Worked exactly as you said, thanks!
Few comments for folks who want to do this:
1. Follow the instructions above.
2. The Firmware comes with a software upgrade guide (PDF). The instructions include two upgrade methods, both are incorrect. Follow the above.
3. The original OS that comes with the phone is Android 4.1 . The upgrade is 4.0 . For me it worth, because google play is enabled.
Regarding the power issues - I try several things - power mode, under-clock to 1200 MHz (using CPU Master).
Home that sometimes soon an upgrade to 4.1 will be available.

I'm really looking forward to, one day, installing a Cyanogen on this device (I wish I had the developing knowledge to do it myself...)

I've got this phone too, the 1 Go RAM model, with Huawei ROM : EMUI 1.6 (JB 4.1.2), and I wonder if a cyanogenmod ROM will be available for this device.
