I looked all over, can't figure out how to remove the google search widget.
I installed nightly from 2012-08-01.

Any suggestion?

If you are talking about that search bar on the homescreen, then just go to system settings->launcher->homescreen->uncheck "search bar"
Hope this helps!

The Google search bar appears is all screens, not only in home screen.
I don't have launcher settings under system.

I found a workaround settings --> apps --> all --> Google search and tap disable.
but this does not free the screen space for icons, the grid remains 4x4

Thats because the google search disable is simply disabling the "search" functionality of the app. Would you mind posting a screenshot of what the problem looks like? Plus any specs you can provide. Thanks

Isn't it as simple as long press on it and then select remove?
