What is the proper radio to be using for the CM9 build (nightly or RC2) that we should be using?

I currently am on I727UCLE2.  Just curious if that is the one I should be using or if there is a better radio that I should be eyeballing...

Thoughts?

EDIT:  I went ahead and found the i727UCLF6 radio and just flashed it.  I did get an error upon reboot.  But now seems to be running fine.  I actually have a strong 4G signal whereas before it was just an H.  Hope it helps my signal... :)

EDIT 2:  Been running radio all night and most of today.  Everything is running great.  UCLF6 must have been merged in the CM9 code already.  I must have missed it in the changelogs.

Now on to Instigators  Custom Kernel... :)

just wondering, if you go into the settings -> about phone, does it list the baseband version? mine is unknown and I was just wondering if yours actually has something listed there

Yes mine does. I'm on CM9 RC2 (Rogers) and it says:

I727RUXLF3

Btw, the way I installed CM9 is when I was at stock 2.3.5, I used Kies to upgrade to 4.04. This also upgrades your radio I believe. Then I installed CWM, rooted, and installed CM9 + gapps and that's it. I never messed around with any radios or anything.

I did the same thing as the diddler. I have the same baseband as him.

Because you are Rogers.... I am on AT&T so mine is different.

I love the Instigator Kernel... I left the house at 9am this morning, I still have 73% battery left. That was with moderate use and I BT a couple of files to my Mac that I needed....

Good stuff!

What exactly is the Instigator Kernel. What does it do? And also, if I decide to do this, do you just flash it, or is there more to it?

It replaces the Kernel that CM9 provides. It basically manages the dual core processors and scales back the Mhz and down to single core if need be. It acts as a throttle if you will... for your cores.  You just flash it each time you do a rom upgrade on the nightly or if u are RC2 just do it until another RC comes out. Very simple to do.  Install CPU spy also to monitor what is using the CPU's and what kernel you are running. CM9 should really consider merging this into the final release.... :)

Thanks for the explanation, I was looking at this kernel but wasn't sure of how to install/what it did either.  Installed it last night and charged the phone up this morning so hopefully I'll see results better than my 30% by 5pm!

I hope so! Lots of things affect battery but this should help also!

It's looking very good so far...I'm maintaining my typical usage scenario during the day (mostly sleep, occasional bouts of texting/checking battery) and the battery is reading 75 percent and it's already 3pm! Wow this kernel is fantastic

I told you!!! :)

I want them to merge it into the final Release....

Been great for me so far!

Glad it has helped you! Did you get CPUSpy also?

I did also get CPU spy like you :P so far 93% of uptime has been in 192/deep sleep mode hahaha I am very satisfied with Instigator's kernel right now!

Yes sir! 192 is where you want to be if you are not using the phone hardcore.... less cycles = less battery usage!

Glad I could help you! ;)

Ok so a few questions before I do this if I decide to.

1. If I want to revert back, would I just have to reflash the RC2 rom?

2. On the XDA Insitigator's kernel page, there are a shitload of links. I'm assuming 5.3.2 is the newest (stable) release but which ones are you guys using because there are also the BadAss, smartass, ondemand, or do you ALSO have to flash 5.3.2 kernel with one of the 3 choices?.

3. What's the difference between the Badass, SmartAss, and OnDemand governor scripts, and which one do you think is the best.

I don't know the answer to all of your questions but I'll answer best I can:

1. Yes I believe that's correct you can just flash Rc2 again and it'll go back to stock kernel.

2. I'm using 5.3.2, just flashed the zip in recovery and then rebooted and I was good to go.  Badass, smartass, and ondemand I can all see in the list of governors but I read on xda that you should flash the specific governor instead of change it in the OS so that it's applied to both cores.  My governor defaulted to BadAss so I believe if I wanted to use any other governor for sure I'd have to flash it.

3. Here's a good link to look at about the different governors: http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1736168

So I got most of that. Only thing is if I flash 5.3.2, you said it defaults to badass, so does that mean that 5.3.2 comes with Badass installed, so if I want Badass, all I have to do is flash 5.3.2 and I'm good to go.

Also, my battery life is already pretty good in the default CM9 RC2 so if it becomes even better... well then that's great :P

Yeah that sounds about right, so I've had the custom Kernel installed for two days now and I've found that my battery is good for about 30 hours if I let it run all the way down (on average) which is really amazing...I used to leave work with 40% battery and now it's 70, it's so crazy!

Thanks a lot. I flashed the kernel so I guess I'll have to wait and see how it goes. I got scared because on the initial boot after the optimzing application thing, it rebooted on its own, and I remember when I flashed nightlies, it went straight to the lockscreen after that. But luckily after the reboot, it optimized applications again (weird), but then went to the lockscreen.

Great! You will see a difference! It's amazing!  From what I know/understand about the Kernel.  You can install the kernel and either use the scripts in a terminal on the phone or use the Performance tab under settings and set the CPU's that way.  The mention of only 1 cpu being affected is in regards to other programs that control governance as far as I can tell...

I stay pretty much at 192 unless I crank up wifi and you tube and other graphic intense apps.  I have not had any wakelock issues or any other issues other than a weird gallery picture resize....

Other than that...it's been silky smooth!

:)
