Hi,
Imagine Cyanverse.
The Greatest App Store Ever Build.
No fixed prices, everything in "pay what you want" spirit, including zero.
Programs compiled straight from github or other source hosting sites.
Games without advertisement and unnecessary permissions.
By community for community, because we care.

It should work like this :]
When you click "install application" button in Cyanverse you are presented with message:
"I'd like to dedictate $ of my money for this project. Thank You."
Below that there is table with some percentage, for example:
50% to app maker
30% to cyanogenmod
20% to charity
You can set default values in settings and manage them on purchase basis. Two arrows, small one with unhappy face for - and bigger one with happy face for +.
After accepting you are presented with nice smiley and note "Oh no, Thank You!".
If you payed more than 0 you are redirected to the payment processor of your choice, you can set default option in settings (or set one when you start Cyanverse app first time).
This idea is very HumbleBundle-ish, and that's a good thing.

When you look at your installed apps tab you can see what you paid for, there is another little smiling face next to it. But if you choosed zero there is ugly 0 icon.

OK, but what if you are a really cyanhearted person and you want to dedictate money, let's say 5$, every month?
You can!
Every month Cyanverse will remind you to eat vegetables and get 5$ lighter. It's healthy not only for you but for hole community :]
Guess what, you won't see big fat 0 icon never again.
To encourage you even more whenever you start Cyanverse there is a splash screen with year and 12 fields representing each month. If you remembered to donate it will be marked. There is special highlight for ever 3 in a row and a full year.
Some special themes for cyanhearted you say? Why not?!

To Cyanogenmod Team.
You can grab peaople who wrote F-Droid app. Make them work with you. Kidnap them if you have to. I'm serious.
http://f-droid.org
I have registered cyanverse.com domain and I'll trasfer it to you if you want to use that name (free of charge ofcourse).
To be honest I'm asking you to do great app store from very selfish reasons. I just want one. So

Awesome idea, if they start,, then I'll definitely help, at least in web side.
I want it to be absolutely free of ANY GEOGRAPHICAL RESTRICTIONS, I hate Google Play for being nazi

I thought Google only does "hardware discrimination" by not showing in search results apps that might not be supported by device.
My main complaint is that it is so hard to find new open source software on Google Play. F-Droid is great but most thigs are little bit outdated.
"Pay what you want" is such a great way to support developers.

I think quite a few but only if this app store was preinstalled on every CyanogenMod rom.
Gamification might help a lot so peaople who did pay would feel really good about it.
Flattr like funcionality would help even further because lots of people would love to have the oportunity to support CyanogenMod with 2$ every month.

Even if the money generated would sustain only the infrastructure of the store that would be great for discoverability of open source apps.

Its an interesting idea but has its flaws.

Firstly, the donating to charity part. The issue with this is that some charities don't want this. As an example: If I make a game called "Lets kill (insert religious minority here)" and a charity makes money off it, thats bad news. They need to control what where they get their funds.

Second, the requirement of 0$ being an option. As a developer, I wouldn't want to chance my income. Maybe have a minimum and maximum sure, but forcing 0$ doesn't allow for good developers.

Third, no ads. This does the same thing as above: limits the income of developers. Its also tough to enforce.

An app store would be great for the community, and its a fairly trustworthy source, but it has to be well thought out.

First. Only charities that do want to be associated with Cyan Store would be listed as an option, it's up to them.
Second. If we are talking about open source software your point doesn't apply. Except games, Humble Bundle model works quite well IMO.
Third. You might be right, I personally hate adds.

Personally, I wouldn't mind ads if they used free software. There is only one app on F-droid.org that contains ads, Just Player, and a good few more that have Admob replaced with an open source dummy. K-9 mail nominates the local SPCA as charity, which probably can be donated to with cash locally. In terms of donating beer money, flattr and bitcoin seem to be only option, unless you paid a lump into Cyanverse and it was divvied out amongst your favourite apps, like Flattr.
