Here is my predicament.

I've always wanted to root my phone and put a mod on. Preferably ICS, but I'm trying this one first because it's Gingerbread and this is my first ROM.

I updated my phone to the .621 system from stock Verizon awhile ago (Android 2.3.4) but then found an article on rooting.
(Google: ".621 root" -> xda-developers' forum -> ".621 Root Method - For new OTA Update")

They had me flash an SBF via linux (Milestone X, which I've found to be exponentially faster than Verizon stock), then root with Zergrush v4. Afterwards I started looking into roms. I installed Rom Manager, and am currently successfully running ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 (Droid X, I believe).

I HAD Droid 2 bootloader at one point (I read that it was expected to use it for better performance), but ROM Manager pointed me to Cyanogen 7.2 for Droid 2 so I switched back to Droid X. Then I manually downloaded and replaced the Droid2.zip with cm-7.2-shadow.zip, and had ROM Manager go to install it. I did not allow it to wipe data/cache, and told it to wipe the Dalvik cache (I said not to format because I didn't want it to fail the first time, and lose all the data I DID already have). It went through the installation procedure and gave me this print-out (In total, retyped for you all):

ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
ROM Manager Version 5.0.0.7
July 4, 2012
Preparing to install ROM..
-- Installing: sdcard/clockworkmod/download/cms.3.clockworkmod.com/release/CyanogenMod-7.2.0-shadow/cm-72.0-shadow.zip

E: Error in sdcard/clockworkmod/download/cms.3.clockworkmod.com/release/CyanogenMod-7.2.0-shadow/cm-72.0-shadow.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM manager to report the issue.

To recap: I did an SBF flash (information below) to Milestone X, rooted, custom recovery image, and then this was manually downloaded and put on my SD card, where I tried to install and it failed.

Phone Information:
System Version - 4.5.604.MB09.ACG-nTelos.en.US
Model Number - Milestone X
Android Version - 2.3.5
Baseband Version - BP_C_01.09.15P
Kernel Version - 2.6.32.9-geadffa3 mcbk83@il93lnxdroid08 #1
Build Number - 4.5.1_57_MX2-34
ERI version - 5
PRL version - 52826

Again, this is my first time installing a ROM. Many of the things one might know, I find myself oblivious to-- Except making sure to get a working recovery bootstrapper BEFORE ROM installation, which I've done. I also backed up my current Milestone X system.

I try to provide all the information one could require. Still, if I have left anything out, ask me and I will do my best to tell you.

Thank you very much!

UPDATED: Out of curiosity I reverted to Droid 2 bootstrapper and tried to install again, resulting in all the same text as in the above code box.

Out of impatience I found an article on the forum that says I can run the CM9 for Droid X beta release. And guess what? I can!

For all intents and purposes I will call this article dead unless I want to revert-- which I may have to-- because the battery life appears to only be a few hours, here.

Been having this prob too.
I'm on CM4DX-GB(5/22/2012) @ rootzwiki
And can't update to CM7.2
tried all the formatting system/data/cache/
Tried going to the black hat .605 odex'd version 1st
wiping data/cache, etc
I have the same error...every time...

I don't want to go to CM9 as a bunch of things aren't working, plus the phone is getting long in the tooth, but would like to get the latest in GB...

Tried the latest nightly just yesterday as well, still no-go.
Other forums have said to open the code & edit out the kernel check part & it will work...
I don't think I'm comfortable with it, but have done worse before...so if CM7.2 isn't allowing an update soon if you've come from CM4DX-GB, I probably will edit the code eventually if CM4DX-GB isn't updated soon as well.

I'm with this crew, not a noob to rooting, but stuck with the X (post 621) with the root solution to Milestone.

I'd like to be able to install CM 7.2 but its not taking - anyone got any assistance or instruction they can lend?

Not that this isn't a bit late.. but hey, someone else might read this eventually. First, take these comments for what they are, another user just trying to figure out what's going on and I don't know if all what I say is correct.

Okay, the main developer for DX for CM (cvpcs http://cvpcs.org/ ) might not be working on it as much as he apparently now has a verizon galaxy s3 from reading his google+. That and his blog hasn't mentioned DX since september last year doesn't seem to be good news.

However, it seems some people at rootzwiki (cvpcs mentioned working with them in his blog posts at least somewhat) have been working on unofficial versions of CM which you might have more success with. I haven't quite tried it yet as I just been reading twitter/google+ feeds and cvpcs' blog etc trying to catch up. But from what I've learned.. the previous problems stem from the fact that the CM7 shadow build for DroidX is still running a froyo kernel. This includes the 7.2 release.

Since you guys started out with a GB kernel (.621 update and later)  or manually installed one, you're not really going to be able to use official CM 7.2
