The android build Ice Cream Sandwitch is now available for the nook color! Keep in mind this is the first Release candidate so you might experience some bugs.

If you are coming from nook color gingerbread versions you WILL have to back up your data using an nandroid backup and download a new .gapps file for these builds. Follow the instructions in this included link. http://forum.cyanoge...ed-2012-jun-26/

Help test this new ICS build on your nook color and submit bugs that you encounter to the bug tracker found here at this link. http://code.google.c...mod/issues/list

It looks like those outside download links for encore, which is the nook color, is not working. I left a note to the mod that posted those links. I am not sure where you can get it for now.

Smashing! Is there anything in particular that I should know about that is not working yet as it does in CM7.2? Like, as I had heard before, Hardware Acceleration of the UI and Hardware Video Decoding?

I am not sure. I clicked on the encore for those links and I am not seeing CM9 for a download. Can you see it? Even on the mirror link through RC I am not seeing it available. The first link I give shows its up. Maybe its for other devices only?

See this page here? It shows the download on top of the page but the links do not follow through. http://forum.cyanoge...-color-general/

I always thought those were general forum announcements (for all sub forums) not the nook sub forum in particular.

I *assume* that CM9 for the Nook Color simply hasn't been built yet.

Oh. I noticed that just a few minutes after making my posts. I assumed it was that I simply didn't pay proper attention.

No RC for the nook color it seems. I guess that link that was put up by the mods was taken back down. I was thinking someone finally stabilized that code and put it up along with the other CM 9 RC 1 that was being pushed by cyanogenmod for the other devices. Looks like they are still trying to get it out of Alpha mode.

They have been having problems with HTML5 that is trying to become standard for youtube videos, but everyone on all OSes have been reporting problems, so I dont think its just the builds for the nook color. I guess they are trying to do away with flash in Android 4.1 and up.

Also hardware acceleration has been flacky on the nook color. Could be a few more months before it gets out of Alpha mode I would assume. You can check on the work being done and help contribute if you have the knowledge to do so up in XDA here at this link. http://forum.xda-dev...php?t=1677219

I figured they would take this Kang build here from Krylon360 for the OFFICAL ICS release candidate 1, I have been using it on one of my testing nooks and WOOOO its way stable with OpenGL hardware acceleration.

For those tired of waiting I would go check out this ROM.

One of the best ICS builds out so far. Check it out in this thread here bros. http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1730377

Alright. Well, I got it, It is indeed very nice. there's two things in the thread you listed that I found too ambiguous though.. Could you help me out with them? I'm not quite familiar with the android hacking context.

Download Goo Im
Download Latest aokp for Nook color

What does "download goo im" mean? goo im seems to be a file hosting site..

What does aokp mean? I see it in the name of the ROM, so i'm confused what it means to "download latest aokp" after I download and install the rom.

The download goo.im means your .gapps file you will need for the ICS builds. ICS .gapps file for the google 'playstore' are different than the ones for the gingerbread versions of cyanogenmod so to have access to the 'playstore' you will have to use a different .gapps file. Here is the link for that. Use the CM 9 version on top.  http://goo.im/gapps

Here is the link for that AOPK ICS nook color build from Phoenix's  link above. http://goo.im/devs/k...-eng.krylon.zip

AOPK means "Android Open Kang Project", I guess that means that ROM is available for anyone wanting to improve it or use it, like cyanogenmod here maybe. Usually AOPK is the top of the line bleeding edge OS that is currently available. Most likely beta builds of ICS for the nook color. Though some are Alpha builds. Reports on XDA though for that ROM suggests its a beta build now.

Usually AOPK builds are like Kang builds, they are outside younger "linux developers"; including me, trying to make a rep for themselves so you will see some bugs in these builds; but since its a competitive project outside of cyanogenmod, you can expect daily improvements from other teams building ROMS for the nook color also until it goes stable. Which is a great thing. Adds some competition for development. I would think that the code is also submitted into the main linux kernel line for the nook color so our wait for a ICS stable or release candidate is now growing shorter.

The builds here on cyanogenmod proper are done by seasoned professional "UNIX wizards" ...as a side project or from those retired from development from a reputable corporation. Like fat-tire. I will wait for that build for ICS for my nook color to be released as a  Release Candidate as those guys put perfection first. Which takes a bit more time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only outstanding bugs in that AOPK nook color build in the link Phoenix gave is a huge battery drain which stands out at the end of that XDA thread so that issue will have to be worked out. Also since ICS is trying to implement HTML5 and doing away with flash support for videos there are reports coming in that they are having problems streaming HD video. 360p standard definition is working fine though.
So....just those two outstanding bugs need to be worked out before that build is ready for a Release Candidate here. Hopefully :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This thread here has a better outline on how to install this ROM in this link here. Note box 190. He used verygreens SD card method on XDA. http://forum.xda-dev...1730377&page=19

Oh. I knew the part about the gapps. I was just confused because I downloaded them and installed them above, previously. With CWMR. Anyways, thanks! Useful information.

I intalled that kang build, and my big beef is performance. I was scoring quatrant standard scores of over 2k with cm7.2. Kang comes in around 1500. Also tons of crashes.

Wow. You would think for an ICS build that performance score would be off the chart. Looks like I will wait a bit. Some are getting impatient but this latest stable has some ICS functions backported into it. I rage if I get just one crash on my nook color in a full day of use so I better wait. :D . Thanks for the tip editdroid.

I'm using it, I haven't noticed a performance decrease and I haven't had it crash on me. Maybe I'm just fortunate. I didn't do a benchmark though, But responsiveness certainly seems much higher. To be honest I'm in it for the native multitasking features of ics and the new notification center replacement with toggles and shortcuts. I hated the UI of gingerbread.

Yeah I haven't noticed any major problems with my ICS build. I really like it. It seems like its really stable to me. No crashes or anything on my nook.
