I used ROM Manager to try a couple of nightly builds of CM9. I didn't have any problems installing, or restoring my backup and trying a different version. However, with every CM9 build I have tried so far I have no networks available to me.
I am on the Bell network (Canada), although I'm with Virgin mobile. This should be a CDMA and HSPA+ network. I have the toro build installed.
Suggestions? Any more info I can provide?
I know it's not released/stable yet.

Did you reset all the data & cache before installing the nightly build of cm9?
Do you have at least 3G connection or do you not have any connection to the network at all?
I use my phone on Verizon but just a few things to start the conversation... hopefully someone else has used it on Bell network...

I did a backup and full reset of the data and cache before installing the nightly build. When CM9 booted up, it took me through the original setup of the phone, but could not locate a carrier during the setup. After the initial setup I had wifi, but it could not locate any carrier.
Perhaps some more useful info, when I go into the "About phone" section under CM9 it was showing an unknown baseband version. After restoring my phone it shows I9250XXLA2. I don't know if that's helpful at all.

looks like the reason being... from what you say... what's going on is your installing the wrong version... the toro build is for cdma/lte(vzw)... try flashing the toroplus... that's for the cdma/hspa network(sprint)...

Ah, thanks! It's hard to know which one to use since the networks are a bit different in Canada vs the US.
So, the problem really stemmed from the fact that I had ClockworkMod Recovery set to use the Verizon version too, which then downloaded Toro for me.
What I have discovered, is that on Bell (Virgin Mobile) I actually need to be on Maguro. Having the correct version works!
