So when I'm following the wiki instructions to gain s-OFF and installing custom recovery image, I get to the revolutionary part, however, my phone has a different Hboot version to any listed.

so, I'm guessing I need to find a new way to get s-off and install a custom recovery, correct?

Also, could I use the HTCdev Unlock bootloader to do this?  (the description on their website doesn't tell me much, just the very basics, not even sure if it gains s-off)

if there is any tutorial specifically for the sensation XE, please link me?

-Thanks a lot, Chris.

The Sensation XE is a different phone than the Sensation. I doubt the CM ROM will work on your device.

I read that it worked but I just lost the Beats audio (the rest of the phone is, hardware wise, identical)

EDIT: Any news on an upcoming Sense XE version of cyangen? :)

The current sensation cm9 releases will work on the XE since they have identical hardware

Good to know. Apparently the site I saw that info on was wrong. What is the difference between the two phones?

Actually the Sensation was underclocked, so the XE has just been put back to the default clock :)

You can start with the update guide wiki: hxxp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Sensation:_Full_Update_Guide
But you'll also have to double check that your firmware/hboot versions are good.

That's the problem, the hboot version is different (1.27.0000, and the thing used in the wiki doesn't work with it

You've got HBOOT-1.27.0000 as well? To get it from stock ROM to CM9, I initially applied the official HTC Android 4.0.1 OTA update, next unlocked the bootloader and gained S-OFF using the instructions provided on http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
After that I flashed Clockworkmod Recovery and then installed CM9.

Which "thing" on the wiki didn't work?
I've got hboot 1.27.0000, so that's a start. Initially, I gained S-OFF with the htcdev.com/bootloader also. After that, you should be able to flash Clockworkmod Recovery, and also CM9.

Do you already have S-OFF?

erm, revolutionary, and Nah, I don't have S-OFF, I haven't done anything since the tool on the wiki doesn't give the option for hboot 1.27.0000

I think I understand now. revolutionary was necessary before HTC released their unlocked bootloader. It doesn't work with newer hboot versions, such as 1.27.0000.

got to hxxp://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and follow their steps for unlocking your bootloader.

at that point, you can use fastboot to install clockwork mod recovery, which you can then use to flash CM9.
This site documents the steps. Method 1 should be the simplest: hxxp://www.techsliver.com/how-to-s-off-root-flash-cwm-recovery-on-htc-sensation-with-hboot-1.27.0000/

Unfortunately, I can't test that for you because my Sensation was unlocked  last October, while still on HBOOT 1.17.0000.

Perhaps another kind forum responder, who has gained S-OFF more recently can shed some light on that for you.

Alternatively, you can give a shot, and let us all know how it works out, or keep digging.

No. You will need to afterwards follow the juopnobear method. Check out the xda forums to find the method. I started from the same as you and it worked for me.
