Phone Slows Down After App Install

I have noticed my phone will slow to a crawl for about 1 minute after I install or update an app (main memory or SD card).  I am currently running the latest nightly (no swap), but it has happened since I initially started with CM 7.1 stable.  My question is, what processes run after an app is installed.  Is there some kind of indexing going on?

I have the same problem. even one update will halt the device for a bit.
