I just installed 7.2-RC3 (recnt convert from Liberty3!) and I noticed there is no tethering option in the wireless and networks menu... Is this feature depreciated?
The tethering menu is still listed here:

I know I can install Android Wireless Tether, but is there a USB tether program that is actually free? (easytether and pdanet and clockwork are limited)

Well at least you found RC3. All I can find is a couple of nightlies from November. Is the new RC in Rom Manager only?
Edit: Looking under the wrong device name. Duh.

To help future readers:
"cdma_droid2" is the old name for our device, which was retired around the same time CM went from 7.1 to 7.2. The current builds are under "droid2," which is not accessible from the "Devices" page on the CM website. You have to go to a download page for the old cdma_droid2 builds or for some other device, then scroll down the left side to plain old "droid2".
You can also find CM downloads in http://goo.im/cm/

So yeah. Anyone know the answer to the OP's question here? I am running the latest nightly (cm-7-20120610-NIGHTLY-droid2) and have been missing the Wi-Fi tethering app for awhile. When I load FoxFi on my phone, that errors out when attempting to launch the hotspot. I can only assume that hotspot functionality is currently broken and needing to be fixed.

WiFi tether for root users by Muller, Buxton, and Lemons worked perfectly for me on the 6/24 nightly. Haven't gotten usb or Bluetooth tethering to work at all.
EDIT: I should also mention I can't get native tethering to work, either.

Just wanted to point out that I installed the 7.2 Stable, and there is still no native tethering, USB or wifi! Weird...
