Well I definitely buying an Archos 101 as soon as they are released and it would be a godsend if I could install Cyanogenmod on it.

I switched to CM6 on my HTC Dream just few day ago, and it is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S! I'd like to have it running also on my Archos 7 Home tablet... Android 1.5 is so limited... :(
If a proyect will be started with froyo I would donate (in my possibilities, I'm only a student...).
Thanks for your work!

PS: sorry 4 my english... :]

I have an Archos5 IT and 7HT.  I would donate again and again to have a *real* ROM on those two devices.

Well I ended up getting a ViewSonic G-tablet. The specs are a lot better and there have already been 3 different roms released for the device including Cyanogenmod 6.1 beta. The tablet is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow the 22nd.

The Archos tablets are locked down tight, doubt we'll see any decent ROM development for them.

I hope you're wrong.  After all, the Droid X, HTC Slide and HTC G2, among others, were all locked down pretty tightly.

The Slide and G2 were not locked down the same way as the Dx. The Dx has an encrypted bootloader preventing the kernel from being modified. Any and all roms for the Dx use the Moto kernel, its held development of the Dx in the virtual dark ages. It will never see any full, source built ROMs with custom kernels, so its potential will never be fully realized.

I am uncertain what security is in the Archos tablets, but they seem to be pretty locked down.

Is that considering the SDE (Special Developer Edition) firmwares?

As http://archos.g3nius...e_means_to_you? shows, with the SDE the only locked parts are the boot0, keystore, boot1, recovery, and DRM keys. The rest are all freely accessible and stored in the data partition. This is for the previous generation tablet, and the new generation is scheduled to be out tomorrow, which likely will be as accessible or more so.

http://www.openaos.org/ have some info about installing the SDE. It allows installing another OS into the system, and dual booting. :)

+1 for this.  I just got an Archos 70 and it is awesome with the installed firmware (2.2.1).  I'd love to have it rooted and a choice of ROMs to put on it.

I would also like to find a way to port the preinstalled Archos media player which is the best Android media player I have used.

Gen8 SDE has been released and people over at xda are already booting the default Angstrom on it.

Is there any update on this? I have SDE loaded and have full root natively after removing the stock kernel. Seems like there should be some CM love possibilities here.

Hoi !

Well it's been a while since people have been talking about this here, but here I am, reviving the subject :)

I just did an impulse buy of the Archos 10.1 Internet Tablet, Android 2.2...  It's OK, I have to admit it lacks some performance, and the camera doesn't give a high quality picture, but all in all, it's a nice toy :)

So... again... Are you guys thinking about CM for Archos devices ?  Or...... are you already working on it ?  My HTC Desire is already CM'ed, I'd like my tablet to be as well :)

Ch33rz and thanks for your work !

Have you been able to locate any custom roms for your Archos 101 IT?  I've been searching high and low; and can't find anyone working on this.

Thanks
