I'm on Cyanogen 7.2 RC1, and my phone sometime randomly restarts. Could someone tell me why is this?

I've got the same problem, seems to happen when i'm doing gps tracking with sportstracker. Did u notice any patterns with the reboots? any particular software running while reboots? let's try to isolate the problem, i reckon it's gps related ...

Are they hard reboots or soft reboots? Hard reboots brings you back to the nexus logo, and soft reboots brings you back to the CM boot screen. If it is a hard reboot, get the /proc/last_kmesg and post it here... if it is the soft reboot, get a log cat once the phone has rebooted.
Also, did you perform just an upgrade or did you wipe your phone? If you just performed an upgrade (which usually works, but not always), I would first try wiping the /system partition. Seeing as how both of you are running Amon_RA, it doesn't include an option to do it, so I would recommend going to http://mediafire.com/temasek and find his system-only-format.zip file and flash that. Then reflash CM 7.2 and gapps. This will NOT cause any data loss.

Hi,
I never caught it crashing, since during cycling phone is in my pocket, but I think it's a hard reboot since it says "ARM9 has CRASHED" in last_kmesg
Full file can be found here:
https://docs.google....Nm0tamhwSnBVa00
not sure if I understand what u meant by we are both using Amon_RA, no idea what that is
and the whole second part of your reply if you could elaborate a bit more on that that would be
appreciated
I really hope that the file will help to fix this reboot, it's very annoying,
let me know if u need anymore info
cheers

According to your profile, the recovery you are using is Amon_RA. That is the software you actually use to update your phone. The main two choices here are either Amon_RA or ClockworkMod (ROM Manager is just a frontend application for ClockworkMod).
If you are running Amon_RA, follow the steps I mentioned above. If you are running ClockworkMod, you can reboot into recovery, and then in the Mounts and Storage menu, select Wipe /system. Then just reflash CM7.2 and gapps.

ok I see, that profile, that's old and just probably some default settings when I registered ...
I did a facotry at least 3 times, also formated my memory card, removed all non must apps, etc but phone still crashes 1-2x a week
seems to be relared to the radio:
[74331.312835] smem: DIAG '[WCDMA] 07:26:53 FATAL: DOG (LOC_MW:00000) (0)
so I will try to use sportstracker in airplane mode and see if it makes the phone reboot...

The factory wipe doesn't clear out the /system partition, which is why I specifically mentioned wiping that partition. Try my above advice of just wiping the /system partition and reinstalling CM and gapps (again, you won't lose any data), and see if your problem is resolved.

it just crashed again
almost lasted a week, seems to be the same reason:
[223336.553253] ARM9 has CRASHED
[223336.554168] smem: DIAG '[WCDMA] 10:36:10 FATAL: DOG (LOC_MW:00000) (0)

Have you tried running the stock ROM and see if the problem is still there (to find out if it is a hardware or software issue)? You can restore a factory image using the passimg method (use google).

ok, I have wipped my whole system, using the passimage method and downgraded to Froyo, then upgraded to Gingerbread (2.3.6), but I'm still getting the same restarts:
ARM9 has CRASHED
smem: DIAG '[WCDMA] 10:36:10 FATAL: DOG (LOC_MW:00000) (0)
is it a hardware fault? which hardware? cpu? or gsm unit?
any suggestion how to reduce the risk of rebooting? use different prefered network WCDMA/GSM/CDMA? use 2G only? downclock? buy new phone
cheers

First thing I would try is a new SIM card from your provider.

this morning I tried with an other sim card - different provider - phone still rebooted, but I cannot find the same error message in last_kmsg.
this reboots are getting more and more frequent

I still think it's a software bug and happens only when
- sports tracker is running and the phone is moving ( so it needs to look for cell towers )
facts:
- reboots only started when I started using sports tracker
- no reboots with other tracker apps, or when sports-tracker not running
- no reboots in offline mode even with sports-tracker
- no reboots if phone is not using even if sports-tracker running
I think it's a combination of these two: sports-tracker running + phone is connected to 3G while moving that triggers the reboot

I would take this up with Sports-Tracker then. I have had numerous apps that track my exercising on my N1 and never had any crashes. Sounds like they have a badly coded program.
