Update Baseband

Hi,

I've seen on a couple of pages that a specific baseband is required for a specific ROM.

How do I change a baseband and when do I have to do it or rather: when is it needed and what would be the advantage/disadvantage?

I second this, I've searched all over the place and the best I can find are some half-assed super slow download sites that limit me to one download an hour as 'free user', AND it doesn't work.
So can anyone help us out?
