The 7.2 nightly works just fine for me, the new experimental 7.2 RC1 works great except for the GPS. The GPS works for about 1 second after being turned on, then the icon in the status bar disappears. In Google maps my location cannot be found, Beautiful widgets cannot find my location either. Switching back to the nightly for now.

I get good location data -- maybe try clearing GPS state with an app like GPS Status?

I have posted and see this happen with the Facebook app on my phone. Boot the phone and run maps... GPS runs just fine, locks and holds. Run Facebook, and GPS locks for 1 second then turns off. Now, run Maps and GPS will lock for 1 second, then turn off, as if the GPS has been put into some different mode. If you run GPS Status, everything gets reset and seems to run fine, or you can reboot the phone. I had this issue with 7.1, all the nightlies and 7.2RC1 as well. I've learned to live with it, since I know I can reset it.
By turn off, I mean the GPS indicator goes away.

Well, yeah, I mean, who wants the GPS tracking you at every single turn and draining out your battery? The GPS works when you need a GPS program, otherwise it'll cycle off. When I'm Navigating and swap out to another app, the GPS icon is still there, but that's because it's still being used by Navigate.

Luckton - you missed the issue. Read the first message. The problem is that GPS gets put in a mode where, when an app requests a GPS lock, GPS only turns on for 1 second or so, then turns off, waits 30 seconds, turns on 1 second, turns off 30, etc.... Makes using turn by turn directions impossible since you only get a fix every 30 seconds.

I do.
I record the tracks for our hiking website. Just because YOU don't need a feature doesn't automatically negate the need for everyone else.
