can't connect usb

here's what i know.
LG-P999
version 2.3.5
kernel: 2.6.32.45-cyanogenmod
rmcc@giskard #1
rom: cyanogenmod-eagleblood-v2.01
build number: GRJ90
i cannot connect to the pc at all.
when i connect the usb cord, i get nothing at all from the phone, only charges. it doesn't ask me if i want to choose between charging and mass storage, just charges.
windows xp tells me nothing at all anymore, it was just telling me that the device was unknown. my bigger worry is that there isn't even the normal usb connection selection in settings.
what did this guy do? how do i fix it? i just want my phone stock. i can't even get into recovery holding vol-dwn and power. it just shows the box with the android, and reinstalls this crap that's on the phone now. i get no option to pick a rom or anything. i don't have superuser in my appdrawer,
i do have dev tools, file manager, rom manager(which only tells me that i'm not rooted), and the terminal emuloator.
i don't know what to do, and i need some MAJOR help

First things first. You are NOT running CM7, you are running Eagle Blood. Never used it, can't tell you much other than some like it. But IIRC, and w/o looking, your running an outdated version. Next thing, whoever messed with your phone did it "wrong" IMO. The G2x should have CWM installed via NVFlash since there are issues with the recovery partition used by Rom Manager.
As far as USB goes, will get that too. Check and see if debugging is checked under Development in Application Settings.
Breath, we'll get through this and all the silly acronyms

oh, and i've tried with debugging on and off...no different.
i DID however, just about 30 minutes ago get it to go to the s/w update screen with the battery out...though, i had no idea what to do from there anyway, lol.

There are a few stock nandroids or flashable zips around, those are only 2 of them. So search XDA if you want to find one that doesn't have the root added. Or just use super 1-click to unroot.
After that you can take CWM off your phone with the same program you used to install it.

I know I did use the PDA net installer to help get the drivers for ADB to work.

Unless I missed it, this is for the P990 not P999.

So with battery out, you connect it to your computer while holding the buttons, then you go to devices you don't see an APX device? I think I also used some extra software for looking at the devices on my laptop, shouldn't be required but I'll look and see if I can find it.
Also, do you have another cord that you can use other than the charging / usb cable with the phone? I had to use another one for some reason.
Here is a good post / video to get it to work http://www.techofweb...very-g2x.html maybe you'll see something you're doing wrong. But I spent the most part of a day getting these stupid drivers to work with windows 7. I'll give google a try and see if anything refreshes my memory of what I did.

I've not really heard of smartflash in the P999 realm, but there are only two different basebands for the P999 and one is just the update to the other. So it might work, but I didn't see any P999 files in your link. If someone was to do the wrong thing with a P990 file on a P999, they could screw their partitions up.
