does cm9 have the dev tools app like cm7? i remember when having this issue on cm7, going to dev tools and hitting media scan fixed the issue.

if that's not available, try unmounting and remounting the sd card in settings.

thank yoy man, it fixed the problem.

Sorry if this has been brought up before; on alpha-4 I'm noticing the Wi-Fi icon is occasionally disappearing. Wi-Fi seems to stay connected just fine, just the icon disappears from the notification bar. It seems to normally happen on wake, and will come back after some time. Seems that going to System Settings > Wi-Fi will cause the icon to always come back.

Sounds like the wifi sleep policy is set to tun wifi off when the screen is off. I personally have it set to keep wifi on always. If I want to power manage the radios and whatnot I turn on juicedefender. I get 24 hours with my normal daily use on a ful; charge and  up to 48 hours if I turn on bitdefender which keeps the radios off most of the time. data on for 2 minutes every 30 for example. I played with all of the settings for a long time to find out what saved me the most battery based on how I use my device.

What kind of battery life are you getting with Alpha-4? Mine is absolutely retched....like 2-4 hours. I have brightness turned down and all location services turned off.

The battery life is better in Alpha 3/4 than the ones before. I get about 20 to 24 hours now. It also depends how stressful you use your phone.

A few posts back someone has suggested checking the boxes on "Don't keep activities" and "Kill app back button". Those are helpful functions available in the Settings > Developer Options.

Ya, it's stock. I'll try re-download, wipe and re-install tonight. Thanks

The "don't keep activities" option actually caused my phone some serious lag.  turned it back off and it was good to go again..  i do use the kill app long back press option though..

Out of the box stock I got about 12 hours out of a full charge. On every custom ROM i've tried including CM7 and CM9 I've gotten 20-24 hours out of a full charge. If I use juicedefender I can get up to 48 hours out of a full charge. Typically juicedefender doubled whatever amount I got out of a full charge once I tweaked the settings to what works best with my usage. My typical usage is as follows:

Screen on time 1-2 hours
wifi always on (even when out of range)
gps always on (many location aware app freq used)
no kernel changes
only performance tweak is to androids memory management values
30-60 minutes of calls

Typical use while screen is on involves news reader, browser, reference apps (ex imdb), social apps (foursquare, twitter), and various apps like yellowpages and other location aware stuff where the screen in used for only a minute or so for one use of the app.

Not suprised you are getting this kind of battery life. Its rated for 6 hours of radio use and over 100 for just sitting there off like a brick (in airplane mode with screen off). Juicedefender turns off your data altogether for the majority of the time it is on, (turns on for a few mins every hour) so you are hardly using the radio at all.  You are only getting about 3 hours of actual radio use if you are on the internet for the full 2 hours of your screen on time. Then the rest is idle sensors, which don't really use battery. If you have anonymous google stats disabled, it won't use the gps unless you ask it to, so that does almost nothing lol. I can report good battery life on cm7 and cm9 though, I use my device pretty heavily and get a solid 12 hours out of it. (I run a push to talk app all day long and have multiple email accounts that sync. Also spend about 3 hours talking on the phone each day, and an hour of streaming pandora on commute. I get about 8hrs out of it if I am playing games when bored, or use it to surf the web on top of all the other stuff I do in a day.) I only had cm9 for a day or two, so I can't definitively say that it ran as long as cm7, but if it was worse, it wasnt enough for me to notice.

Oh I forgot to mention that I have the google things turned on. I also have two email accounts but I only get maybe 5-10 emails a day. Heavy use for me I would get about the same 12 hours. I haven't been using juicedefender recently unless I know it's going to be a heavy use day so that the time I'm not actively using it that as little battery is consumed as possible. Hopefully I haven't missed anything else important.

i understand in moving to CM9 that we lose (temporarily?) some samsung-specific capability -- e.g. Sprint VVM.

how about camera stabilization?  i've not noticed it in alpha4's camera as an option ... have i missed it?  if not, is it on the eventual to-do list for CM9?

I went back in and turned off basically all notifications or turned them on to check once an hour and battery life improved drastically. On Tuesday I lost 40% in 3 hours. Yesterday I went from noon to 10 PM using only about 55-60%.

Is that a result of an 'image stabilization' *setting* you've managed to find/toggle, like for stock? or, just as a result of steady hands?

I'm looking for the former, as I don't have the latter ...

Nope, it's set to always on. It stays connected when the phone is off, I get Talk and Voice messages when the screen is off (and airplane mode is on, so it's not jumping to 3G). If I go to Wi-Fi settings immediately after turning on the screen the network shows up as already connected even when there is no Wi-Fi icon in the notification bar.

I've noticed battery life has been odd. Standby time for me has been very good, but screen-on time has been abysmal. Yesterday I was at work for 13 hours strait with the phone in airplane mode and Wi-Fi enabled constantly, when I left work I had about 15 minutes of screen on time and my battery was at 72%. When I got home I spent a half hour/45 minutes or so reading Facebook, Google+, and Currents and my battery dropped to 33%. The back of the phone also got really warm. So, my experience at least, is that battery life is great if you don't turn the screen on...

You can reinstall VVM if you want it, its just buggy, and I'm not sure about the image stabilization, but it may exist without option. My images were the same as stock (alpha 3) and I have the same problem with my hands lol.

This was supposed to be fixed in alpha3, but you could improve both the battery and the heat issue by ensuring your brightness is lower when you can. It would also help to lower your max cpu frequency. I usually run mine at 800 max and it runs without freezing or studdering. Using a different scheduler might help too. Its not ideal, but it should help for the time being. If lowering it slows you down, turning off animations should bring it back up to speed.
