Hi, I have CM 7.1 running on my HTC Vision.  Network was really slow so today I went in and asked about it.  They said I had an old EDGE SIM and they replaced it.  However even with the new SIM it still is on edge network and it's slow slow slow.

Any ideas on this?  Could it be because it was (previously) an ATT branded phone?

I can see the baseband version is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M if that matters.  Maybe I need a radio software update?

Edited: I just now updated the radio to 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M and it still says EDGE but it does seem to be a bit faster.  I guess I'll need to tether it and try some downloads to what the speed really is.  The guy at T-Mobile did say it could take up to 24 hours to switch over so maybe I just need to wait until tomorrow.

Thanks

if it's ATT branded.. then phone might not support T-mobile's wireless spectrum.

Well that's a bummer but that must be what's happening because it's not switching to 4G.  I give up on it.  It's too slow to be usable for network.  I'm shopping for a new T-Mobile device.  Requirements: slider keyboard, runs CM.

I did look at the current T-Mobile official phones.  I really really like sliders; I can't live without a QWERTY.  Unfortunately it looks like none of their current offerings have CM support.  I guess I need to wait for CM 9 which might have support for more devices.

I think AT&T runs GSM or something, so do what it said in this XDA post but choice "WCDMA Preferred" instead so it can be used on T-Mobile. And I assume you unchecked the "Use 2G only" option already. xP

Very interesting:

Quote

From the dialer, type exactly:
*#*#4636#*#*

After a moment, a screen will appear called "Testing". Select the drop-down that says "Phone Information". From there, scroll down to where it should say "WCDMA preferred", and change it to "WCDMA only". Use the back key to get out. It should stay selected even through a reboot.

Unfortunately, I tried that and it wouldn't go into "WCDMA only", so no improvement.  I'm now thinking that it's a hardware limitation of this device.

BOTH ATT and Tmobile are same, GSM based service WCDMA

ATT and Tmobile have same 2g wireless spectrum.. so you get roaming in the country areas

However, 3g wireless spectrum are different, ATT uses 1900Mhz band and Tmobile uses 2100Mhz band aka AWS

they are not compatible and only few phone supports both 1900/2100 band

btw, tmobile 4g is nothing more than little improved version of 3g...

This is what I noticed, outside my job I ran speedtest on my phone and got an average of 1.4mbps download speed while running CM 7.1. I flashed the phone to the stock Gingerbread rom and ran speedtest again and got an average of 5.3mbps download speed. Also I noticed with the stock rom I got so much better reception, not just with the cell towers but with the wi-fi too. Also after the flash was the first time I see my phone display 4G at the top.

Check for HTC DOUBLESHOT (tmobile calls it "mytouch4gslide" or some other stupid sounding nonsense). It isn't on the "official" list, but there is an "official" 7.1 alpha-hold-you-over build on XDA for it, and it WILL be official for Android 4.0 (there is an Android 4.0 build for it on XDA, but a couple of functional glitches not yet worked out).

The Doubleshot is the technical successor to the Vision. Its basically identical, except more RAM, faster (double core) CPU, better camera, etc.

Alternatively..... anybody notice that....
ITS BACK

Edit: Its $100, but you need to sign up for a service plan -- and doesn't seem to force you into a contract unless you go for the "$50" mail in card in addition (would take it to $50), so you can cancel immediately.
