not knowing rom manager would download the bml version instead of mtd, i flashed cwm with it because when i choose the option boot into recovery, it asked what phone model, and then it flashed the bml. so im just wondering can i download a odin flashable cwm mtd version anywhere. because i really dont want to reflash cyanogen mod

You actually want the 5.0.2.7 (I think that's the right version string) CWM Recovery that ROM Manager flashes (you did that already), and you want the Odin/Heimdall version. I can't remember the explanation, but there's sorta two versions of recovery on your phone at one time--Odin version, and ROM Manager version. You want both, and eventually Epic MTD CM7 will be able to reboot into Recovery, either thru the power menu or ROM Manager.
To answer your question, yes, visit [RECOVERY] ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7 BML Officially supported by ROM Manager for Epic 4G on the XDA >> Epic 4G >> Development forum and DL the Odin-flashable file. While you're there, read up on CWM Recovery, he put a lot of good info into the OP.
You should not have to reflash CyanogenMod, your OS and Recovery reside on separate partitions. You'd have to really FUBAR the Odin or possibly Recovery flash to screw up your OS partition.

i was having issues getting rom manager to reboot into recovery properly, but then i found noobnl's post about in rom manager, installing CWM, picking EpicMTD, it pops up and error about no official blah blah, hit yes, then choose CWM 3.x.x.x. been working great for me since i did that.
If you can't get into CWM from the 3 finger method then you'll have to grab the tar that AmericanJedi posted..

I didn't see noobnl's post on that, but thanks for this! I didn't know a new choice was available in ROM Manager - now there are 3 choices when you select flash recovery: a.) Epic 4G b.) Epic 4G MTD & c.) i9000
You're right - once you select the MTD version and acknowledge MTD version is unsupported, select 3.x.x.x, reboot to recovery works again!

You can reboot into recovery with this new option, but as far as I know, you cannot install a new rom with it. It hangs, requiring a battery pull . I think they are working on getting this worked out for mtd but it's not ready yet.

The install rom from sd or download rom options in rom manager i don't believe work, but if you just want to reboot to recovery, or even run a backup of your current rom, both of these work fine once the settings I listed above are changed. I use the backup option from rom manager often (love being able to name my backups so i can remember what's what)

I just flashed Nightly 13 just fine using ROM Manager. Worked great.
