When I load xcaliburinhand's Galaxy Dock Sound Redirector, it gives me a "Cannot find a supported rom or kernel" error.
According to this page, "The CM7 dev. group supporting the Samsung phone has decided not to incorporate the code needed to support this feature. There are custom CM7 kernels that support dock sound."
Apparently, the Vibrant and Captivate have a "Platypus" kernel work with dock audio redirection.
Any ideas? Is anyone working on this?

I haven't heard, on the cm7 forums, that any of the custom cm7 kernels have incorporated dock audio. You'd have to go to the xda forums and ask the devs of the custom cm7 kernels. You'll be met with wrath of flames if you ask about custom kernels on any of the CM dev teams forums; they only support the kernel the developed.
There was another user that asked about this and seemed up to creating a cm7 kernel with the necessary customization. I'll edit in a link to that post when I can get to a computer.
<edit>
yochaigalon xda hesitantly mentioned that he may create a kernel for this.

I don't mind; I just didn't feel like going "all-in" if our devs were gonna incorporate it anyhow.

Learning through osmosis isn't going quite as quickly as I had originally hoped.

You'll gain a devoted fan following if you can do that well! Especially if you throw in a few other oft-requested features, such as OC/UV capability, Voodoo Sound, etc. Good luck, Noobnl has already given it up for the time being*, which means it must be fairly difficult.
* He's done that before, then come back and knocked one out of the park.

LOL! If knowledge-by-osmosis worked for me, I'd be a real-life Tony Stark. Unfortunately, I seem to have the same difficulty with it as you...

I also have a dock to test with, so that should help.
I only plan on implementing the sound redirection changes; I personally have no interest in any other changes (which is why I really wish that CM would include the changes) but who knows.

Locate the 2 screws on the back of the sliding portion of the dock, on mine they were concealed beneath two black stickers, remove these screws.
The sliding portion is in two halves, with a cover portion comprising proximity 3/4 of the thickness of the back portion and 1/3 of the thickness of the top portion. The two halves are snapped together, so even after removing the screws they will need to be pried apart. A small flathead screwdriver will work for this, but risks marring the plastic. A fingernail might work. A plastic tool designed for separating snapped plastic parts is really ideal.
Prying the cover portion of the slider off will reveal a plate secured with screws to pegs attached through slits in the sliding portion to the dock itself. Removing the screws and plate will allow the lower portion of the slider with the electrical components to lift away from the dock.
If you're interested in being able to reassemble the dock at some point, screw the plate back into the back of the dock without the sliding portion attached, and then reassemble the two halves of the sliding portion and reinsert the screws. This will keep everything in two pieces (the dock and the slider) with no loose screws or parts.
Depending on your USB and audio connectors, you may need to remove some material from the dock to allow the plugs to fit into the phone. The included USB car charger fits into the phone without modification. You'll need a fairly small audio connector to fit without modification though.
If anyone is interested I can post photos.

The CM team has been against these types of changes in the past, actually - I don't think it's that they break anything.
I'll work on it more tonight and see what I can do. I'm no noobnl, but I do have a dock to test with.

I'd love if you can figure out a fix!!
Now that the phone works very well, it's a bummer to not be able to use it in a car dock!!

i was thinking that only because noobnl actually took the time to try it. i'd be willing to run an almost identical kernel just for this though even if it wasn't CM approved

My background is in linux servers/desktops - I don't have as much embedded device experience as I'd like.
Anyways I'll keep trying; so far not so good.

Don't guess there is any chance the current kernel devs on XDA like earthboundmight include it since they're backing in voodoo and oc/uv capabilities on the CM7 based kernel, might they have the skillz to work this in too?
