White haze with flash

Taking a photo with the flash with Legend seems to give all photos a weird fog or haze. I'm wondering if this is normal 'feature' of Legend, or if it's a hardware or software failure in mine. Here are two example pictures, both taken in a dark room with flash on.

The lense is clean and the flash isn't reflecting off a nearby object (or my fingers). The darker the image, the stronger the fog is. Photos taken outside at night time are totally useless.

Any ideas or comparsion shots with the same phone?
