The keyboard back light needs to be set, no external programs are needed!.
Settings -> CyanogenMod settings -> Display -> Automatic backlight
At "Light levels" tag "Use custom".
Push "Edit other levels..."
Under the column of keyboard change the values to 255, 255, 255, 255, 0
Push the [Save & apply] button and then [Reload current] just above the columns.

Not sure if you need to reboot the phone, For me it worked instantly.
Only when you are in direct light the keyboard back-light is turned off

Still struggling with the HW Keyboard Layout of my girls X10 mini pro... Came across the following guide: http://forum.xda-dev...ad.php?t=953302

On my above post. Got the hardware keyboard working. What I have done is; open update-cm-7.1.0-X10MiniPro-signed.zip in 7zip. Navigated to /system/usr/keychar and deleted the (4) files in there.
Next I downloaded and extracted minicm7 (keyboard working correctly) version on my computer, copied all files in /system/usr/keychars/ to the directory in the zip file of CyanogenMod7.

Flashed (after a wipe, offcourse) the new zip and all seems to be working.

I suspect the guide I posted previously should work to, then, if you use the files from the minicm version.

Offcourse you need to change the settings again to enable the backlight of the keyboard.
