I flushed this ROM step by step following the update guide at http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com. Everything was ok except the rooting step, but I finally made it.

After the ROM was flushed, the device was perfect. And the Wi-Fi worked well untill yesterday. In the Settings, I see some saved SSIDs that I used before. And at least one of them is transmitting signals, but it cannot be connected. In addition, there is not any more SSID that is transmitting signals but has not been used.

What's wrong with my device? Anybody help? Thank u.

I once used another ROM built based on early Cyanogenmod and came accross the same problem. It seems to be an internal bug of Cyanogenmod.

I am having this problem too. I was using Quarx's nightly builds up until the stable CM 7.1 came out. Been using CM7.1 stable since it came out, and never had an issue with wifi until last night.

I don't have 3G coverage in my town, so wifi is a must when at home (the only place I use wifi). Got 3G or HSPA data connection where I work, so no need for wifi there.

I see a list of past wifi networks I've connected to, and see my home network listed there. However none have signal. I know wireless works, as my wife is connected just fine on her Defy, but she's on the stock T-Mobile US Froyo.

I may try moving to a nightly build in the next few days if I can't get this figured out.

Anyone have any ideas?

UPDATE: At some point this evening my wifi started functioning again. I didn't make any changes to my phone, it just started working out of the blue. So, not sure what to do now that the problem seems to be totally intermittent.

Same problem for me.
FLashed with Cyanogen 7.1 (OFFICIAL) and gapps-gb-20111029-signed.zip
(tried also gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip)
Before I was on official Froyo - WIFI worked without any problems.
After flashing - phone works OK (I did wipe both data, cache part, and dalvik),
but when I tried to turn on WIFI it behaved like that:
- it didn't found my wifi (found wifi of my neighbour)
- adding my wifi manually resulted in status that it's out of range

After reboot I can't turn WIFI on at all anymore:
After ticking WIFI on I get:
- scanning
- nothing
- scanning
- nothing
- ...
and so on.
No network are found.

My AP runs in B/G mode and it AES protected (but I believe that if it won't turn on at all changing that to different method won't help).

An hour ago I switched to latest nightly CM but I got same situation.Anybody have an idea of what can be causing that?I saw few similiar posts on web, but none of them with solution

I have the same problem.

My Defy had the stock UAE froyo rom which worked fine but after flashing CM7.1 the wifi isn't as good.

I usually leave the WIFI enabled at all times but it won't automatically connect to saved access points when they come into range.

I can usually get it working simply by going into the wifi settings and it suddenly connects with no other action required. Occasionally it won't even do that, it just says scanning. Disabling the wifi and re-enabling sometimes works. Other times I have to wait a while or try it a few times before it finally connects.

Once connected it's stable until I go out of range again.

Not that big a deal really, reminds me of how stock t-mobile android 1.6 behaved on my old G1 but it was way better with the stock motorola froyo that came with the phone.

I wonder if future CM builds will work better with the defy's wifi.

Hi guys,
I had a similar problem when I first flashed CM7. I found changing the security on my wireless router from WEP to WPA2 solved the problem. GIve it a go if you aren't on WPA2 already.

I can say: No that is not the case. But I can explain, why you thougt you have "fixed" this issue. When ever your Wifi isnt capable of "finding" a Wifi, just delete our preconfigurated Wifis-APs in the list shown under "Wifi aktive".

Than suddendly it says "Scan..." - and everything is working fine. (The Button Scan has AFAIK no function) And I am pretty shure its the scanning things fault. Instead of scanning for wifis it try to connect, to the last wifi.

Hello,
I have the same problem for some time.
1) When my routers are configured with WPA2 & AES (wifi N), I can connect but the connection is lost after a few minutes. At this point, if I did a search for wireless network, my Defy not find anything.
2) When my router are WPA & TKIP (Wifi B / G) no problem.
- It's a shame and very limiting when you want to connect to a WIFI Hotspot is in N for example.
- This problem has long been known and it is unfortunate that the developers as do not solve.

Hello all,

I am using CM 7.1 on the Defy. I had the same trouble. After several months of working (CM in 7.0 RC2 and now CM 7.1), one day I had no more WLAN (Germanic for Wi-Fi). In Settings>Wireless and Networks>Wi-Fi Settings: It showed known SSIDs (Wi-Fi Networks), but didn't see them as active and didn't try to connect. It didn't show any unknown SSIDs which other machines see. Pressing Menu>Scan would not have any effect. Rebooting and turning off and back on (the "universal IT expert solution") didn't work. Other devices I am using could see and use the Wi-Fi Networks.

My solution was to delete all known Wi-Fi networks and then restore them. It worked. If you happen to make backups of your device, you can restore them automatically. In Titanium Backup go to Backup/Restore, then find and click on Wi-Fi Access Points, then Restore. Good luck!

I kindly ask the CM developers to look into the Wi-Fi code for the Defy. Even when it's working, it's less stable than in other devices.

Hello everyone

I had the same problem yesterday with the wifi on my defy on CM7. I just enabled the fly mode for few seconds then disabled it and it worked perfectly for me, the wifi is working again without any problems !

Hello to you all and first off well done with cm7 for motorola defy.

I took the plunge rooted and after a while dived in and loaded cm7 last night.

how ever when i try to connect over my home net work it will not do so at all.
All it does is connect I put in my pass key it connects then disconnects and says that the connection is disabled. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

But when I log into my "Guests" service on my router ( Which is server based and not WPA-PSK Protected) it connects with out a problem.

What gives this is very frustrating please help.

Surely this is a fairly major flaw and should be fixed. What other stable roms are there to use without a wifi issue as if there is not I will ditch cm 7 if there is no fix.

Thank you!

Also to those who bit#h about CM: If you dont like it dont use it
My phone is soo much better than the original one I bought because of the hard work the CM Team has done, I am glad there are very clever people out there working hard to make my life better

This problem seems to have gone away on my Defy at about the time I updated to de CM7.2RC, I am now on CM7.2RC3 and running the latest nightlies and have not seen the stuck wi-fi issue for a while. This is not to say it's perfect, sometimes I get weird disconnects or some access points won't let me connect, but it is at least reasonably usable again. Now if only I could get it to work on channel 14…
