Any luck with this? I have the same issue in Spanish. I tried with the Go SMS Pro, but nothing.

Had the same problem in spanish, seems to be resolved by Go SMS Pro, under Send Settings, Activate Locale Support, I choose Spanish SMS support. I can now use accents without reducing the number of chars available to half so I guess it should solve the garbling issues too (these only occurred when sending to some devices, haven't been able to try it yet).
