I upgraded my HTC Evo from 7.0.3.1 with ROM manager and dalvik-only wipe and have no known problems.  One weird thing is the screen goes blank after booting instead of showing the lock screen, but I get to the lock screen after turning the the power button off & on.

The best part is GPS now locks in immediately.  I could never get it to do that with the old CM7, tried all the fixes and it always took up to several minutes to lock in.  This improvement alone is totally worth the upgrade for me.

The only thing left unsatisfactory is the USB storage write speed.  It takes 5x too long which hurts when writing a big video file which I do often.  So when I need to put on a video I just mount the USB storage in recovery and it flies.  I tried the SD dual-mount app in the past but it scared my when it started intermittently and rapidly  mounting/unmounting on the PC, and I thought it might crater some data on the card.  I do see a lot of people saying good things about that app, however.

due to the fact that the usb port is a weak point on the mother board, I never use it. (I have seen 3 evos break the port)

I just pull the sdcard and put it in the computer.

I do not use chargers ................ I have 8 extended batteries with separate wall chargers.

The new 7.1 rocks... quicker gps lock and my batteries are lasting longer too.

that seller has regular batteries, but since you have an otterbox, changing them would be a pain

eh, not really, the reboot takes about 4 times longer than re-assemble.

I have 4 batteries.  two oem and two by the same people as suggested above.  They're great!  Agreed on the USB port.  I've personally broken two.  Although last time, they replaced my phone with a brand new one.  :)  I was expecting them to tell me to come back in a week for a refurb to come in.  They took my phone and gave me a new one.  Which was interesting since I was rooted and on CM7.  Of course, I was using Boot Manager to load a stock rom to show them... but I never got a chance to wipe and unroot.  lol.  :)

My upgrade was smooth as well. The first few days following my upgrade were annoying since this was the first upgrade after I rooted and used titanium backup. Reloading the apps was a PIA initially (until I figured out what I was doing wrong).

I haven't had any of the issues I see here on the forums. My WiFi works fine (actually seems stronger), my battery life seems marginally better, no issues with 4G, wired and wireless tethering work perfectly.

My battery life and WiFi connections have been significantly better on 7.1, but I'm still having issues with the GPS taking a lot longer to lock compared to when I was on stock Sense.

Was this just through HTC Warranty servies?

For those that have no GPS issues, have you flashed the GPS before?  I am new to this and recently went from stock to CM 7.1 stable but am running into issues with my GPS where google maps cannot lock my location.

By "flashing" I assume you mean by going to recovery mode and doing "install from zip" which I did for the qualcomm 1.1 drivers people say they have had good success with but to no avail.

Any suggestions on what people here have done?  I have hardware revision 004 if that makes a diff.

I went straight to the store (Stephens Creek, San Jose, CA).

To fix my GPS issues, I flashed the top driver on this page:  http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1132412

To the Sprint store?

My USB port is not working, and while I've been able to make things work using the same methods trailboss described above (but with only 3 batteries...thats plenty for me), I kinda want to have it fixed just in case I need to connect to my computer via USB if something goes wrong. I'm just trying to decide if I need to unroot and flash back to stock again :P

Also I've read some people saying you have to flash back to Sense when doing a GPS fix and then flash your CM backup after its fixed; is that true?

Really silly question for everyone, but as I'm fairly new to this, I thought it best to ask.

I currently run 7.1.0-RC1-Supersonic on my EVO 4G. I have downloaded (to the phone's "download" directory) the file "update-cm-7.1.0-Supersonic-signed".

I use a paid-for Titanium Backup to back up all my apps.  I have ClockworkMod installed, and when I reboot the phone I see options for "Reboot, Recovery Mode, and Bootloader".

Would anyone care to walk me through the actions I need to take to go from the RC1 I have to the stable I downloaded, including getting all my apps back?  I would really appreciate it.

In reply to my own question, I thought I would post this step by step.
1. Get Titanium Backup and create a complete backup onto the SD card.
2. Use Titanium Backup's ability to create a zip of itself for install during recovery.
3. Make sure you have both CM7.1 and the latest gapps.
4. Carefully follow the steps at http://wiki.cyanogen...ll_Update_Guide for whatever Recovery you have (I have Clockwork). I did both CM7.1 and gapps at the same time.
5. Reboot and go back into Recovery to flash the Titanium Backup.  Reboot.
6. As soon as the system allows you to, restore all your settings and apps with Titanium Backup by following http://matrixrewrite...age=TB - HOWTOs

Between those two sites, you get a nice cookbook method of updating to the latest stable CM.

I'm still waiting to see if I need to flash the GPS_Supersonic_Fix_Flash3 (as I did for 7.1.0-RC1). (GPS wouldn't get/keep a signal with RC1, but after flashing the Fix_Flash3, it worked great).

After the Titanium restore, I did have a few Widgets which didn't want to show - just had to remove the "Can't display widget" and re-add the widget to the screen.

@mredmond
No need to flash back to Sense anymore with the new flashable drivers (see Trailboss' file)

@jonathanr
thanks for your step-by-step.  The widget issue is always that way when upgrading.  It has to do with security and the widget being linked to a specific app id.  No worries - just do as you did and replace the widgets.

I'm getting a "401 Error" whenever I try to open that link...Is this a different driver than the ones ailima linked to above? (http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1132412)

And of the drivers listed on that page, what have you all found to be the best with your particular CM build? (I'm just on the stable 7.1). I know the post says the Qualcomm v1.1 is recommended, but I'm just curious.

Also, if there have been so many issues with the GPS for Evo users, why haven't the CM devs just included these drivers and fixes in their releases? Why the need to flash them separately?

I only flashed the gps fix when I flashed CM7.1 as a just in case.  I lost gps on CM7.0 so I didnt want to take any chances
