yes. /system/ is mounted read-only while the system is booted. Either run 'adb remount' to push to a booted system or, much safer, adb shell into recovery and

adb shell mount /system

then run your push

Yup, it's working now =)  Thanks!
I lost 1h today trying to adb logcat the net-crashing bug, but somehow i've seen nothing interesting and the network returned to work.. catchy catchy bug! =/

If by "the market" you mean the Android Market, that comes with the Google add-on.
Flash it after flashing the update-cm5-signed.zip

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I couldn't find it anywhere...do you still have to have the special format for the SD card to flash the mods? What is the format? Thanks for any help.

A bit of a public announcement..

The OP has changed:

- Even more links (everything underlined you see, is now a link - meaning I removed all the [u] tags)
  • Links to recoveries (once again)
  • Links to bootloaders/SPL
  • More links to Wiki pages
- Even more colors :P. You will find the really REALLY important stuff in red (not that other stuff can be just skimmed through), and the green stuff should give you a hint that these parts can be used in console/terminal/command prompt.

- I restructured it "a little bit", hoping to make sections easier to follow.

I hope you still find it useful.
Enjoy!

P.S. To those 3 votes for cutting it down.. I'm not sure I quite succeeded there.. maybe it even grew a little. Sorry! I would like to try and keep it on the rookie level, with as much info as possible. But keep casting your votes, they are very helpful, and will eventually decide on the final layout of the information in the first post.

If you want to use A2SD, then make sure you format your card with FAT+EXT partitions, and tick the options for Apps2SD in Application management.
If you want to utilize swapping, then format FAT+EXT+SWAP.
If you don't want any of these, then plain FAT (non partitioned sdcard) will suffice.

You don't "have to" do anything really, it's totally up to you.
Additionally, follow one of these if you choose to format/partition your card.

MODEL? T-Mobile G1 Black
HBOOT?
RADIO? 2.22.23.02

Which version of CyanogenMod? 5.0.7-DS
Did you wipe before flashing? Yes
Have you tried running fix_permissions? No because it won't even start up.
Have you tried rebooting? Yes, but not during boot loop
Apps2sd / partition type/size?
What size/class sD card? 2GB Class 2
Compcache/swap?

My phone is stuck on the Nexus One boot loop (err, redundant) and I don't know what I can do... I've bricked my first G1 two weeks ago when the battery failed while loading the DeathSPL so I am too scared to touch this thing right now. What are my options? Can I turn it off? Eject the SD? Please help!

Other details:
I followed the instructions on http://wiki.cyanogen..._CM_5_for_Dream to the word, wiped it clean, installed all files in the proper sequence, you name it...

Hello,

I have a Vodafone magic (32A) and after I installed the mod then my phone would boot to the red Vodafone screen and stop.
I currently have GyD 3.05 rom and it is working perfectly. I reinstalled it after failing to boot CyanogenMod 5.0.7 and it worked. So I guess my problems are only with Cyanogen (I also tried Super E 2.1 and I again I only managed to get to the Vodafone boot screen).

Can someone please give some instructions/ideas on what to do to install it properly?

The specs are as follows:

Magic 32A
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17

Regards,

Nick

I'm afraid we're going to need the log here.. (see links in the OP if you need help with this)
Reboot to SPL (Back+Power) to verify DangerSPL has been flashed correctly, too.
If your phone is looping on the Nexus-like animation, it is safe to reboot it (no risk of bricks here).

Don't pull your sdcard out just yet.

Hi,
Did you wipe? This is required..
Did you install the kernel for 32A? (assuming you're an EBI1) This is required, too.

I wiped. Concerning the kernel installation. How do I do that? And how do I know if I am EBI1?

I think you are an EBI1 Magic (32A, radio 3.x)

Magic 32A/EBI1 Kernel Update:
Download: http://briancrook.ca...ebi1-signed.zip
MD5Sum: 591ca4356de8d9478797932e0586ea88

Flash it from recovery, after you flash the update and gapps.

**** NEW TEST VERSION 5.0.8-DS-test1 IS OUT ****

Hey guys, I just got a new G1, (warranty repair) and I'm trying to root it. I was running CM 5.0.7 before and I never had any issues. Now I followed all of the steps exactly (I think) and I'm running into what others have described as a bootloop, but not really similiar to mine. I was starting from stock ROM after getting root, and I installed Amon_RA, from there I flashed the newest radio image and then flashed the images for danger spl, rebooted, and then flashed cyan 5.0.7 and gapps respectively. When I rebooted, it went through the T-Mobile G1 screen, then on to the new cyanogen splash screen, but then after about 30 seconds, it freezes up and restarts. I'm not sure where I've screwed something up. I'm able to flash the original dreaimg to get back to stock, but thats all I've been able to do. I might try flashing cm 4.2 and see what happens, but does anyone have a thought?

Hello again,

I finally managed to install 5.0.7 and it is working ok (although I think that my phone gets a bit warm).

I think that it would be nice to add greek keyboard (as there is greek locale but not keyboard) and the translated MarketEnable app as I had to download the original one which is in chinese!

Regards,

Nick

I got it working! The only thing that I could do was Hard Reboot then boot into RA Recovery upon startup. Then I wiped, cleared all cache (including Dalvik), then proceeded to do the install all over again. Now I am up and running! Thanks for the tip that it's safe to reboot! =D

I recently ordered a Rogers HTC Dream for my brother who is on ATT. I have not received it yet but should get it in a day or two. I know I need Danger SPL and a certain 2.xx or 3.xx radio. Does anyone know what radio I should use for ATT? Anyone have any experience with this? I am just wondering what radio seems to be best for ATT?

Thanks!

I had 4.xx.xx before i got 5.0.7 . I flashed it without wiping but several things didnt work so i went back to recovery and wiped and then flashed 5.0.7 now the recovery image is gone, i mean it doesnt open the recovery after pressing home + power .

I want to go back to 4.xx. because of battery issues with CM5 but without recovery i cant get there. I had Amon Ra recovery but now was using ClockworkMod ROM Manager . It doesnt reboot into recovery anymore. I tried Flash Rec app but that didnt work

I then tried the whole rooting process i used the first time, which was installing that SAPPIMG.nbh file but that wouldnt install thru Fastboot . All it said was Incorrect Model Id. I have the HTC Magic 32B

I would appreciate all help ( i'm a newbie to all this and CM5 was my second time installing a ROM)

thanks
Samad

If I understand correctly, you still have a working CM5?
You can keep trying to flash it from Terminal:

1. Put the recovery image (.img file) on your sdcard
2.Open the Terminal (or via "adb shell" - might be easier) type:
$su
#cd sdcard
#flash_image recovery file_name.img

If you get any messages, then the flashing failed. Keep repeating the flash_image command, until you get no messages at all.

Another option would be to go back to Cupcake, but using a Goldcard method, since you are getting the error about Wrong model.
Then follow this rooting guide.

These links are from unlockr.com and not my/our own. Please read the pages carefully :)
