I'd try over at the XDA site.  They're all the tinkerers.

According to the online market, it is not compatible with our phones due to hardware limitations...

It requires OpenGL 2.0+. You can do the build.prop trick to set your opengl version to 131072 and it will install after a reboot.

Can you link the instructions for modifying the build.prop? I've searched the forums, but haven't found one that seems to work.

I have it on my hero, i just added the app to my sd card and installed it from there worked like a charm. The only problem is you can sync it with google music on your computer.

Im trying to attach the apk but it wont let me.

EDIT::
Here's the link to a working copy of google music that I uploaded, just extract it to your desktop add it to your sd card and use a file manager to install it.

I just use root explorer.  Go to the /system directory, set it to r/w mode, then open build.prop in the text editor.  About halfway down is a line that says: ro.opengles.version = {some number}.  Change that number to 131072.  Save the file, set it back to r/o, and reboot.

Syncing works fine for me, though I had to force it the first time in the Dev Tools app (should be included with cm7).  Open it, go to Sync Tester, select com.google.android.music.MusicContext from the drop down, press "bind", then "start sync".  Give it a few minutes, and your synced music should start showing up.

After that everything seems to work fine, though the app fc's a lot, probably both due to being new, as well as not designed for our phones.  And landscape mode definitely wont work at all, looks like thats where the opengl dependency is, since its a fancy coverflow style view.

I get the message Sync failed:SyncResult:stats [ numParseExceptions: 1]

Maybe I should mess with my exceptions a little bit?

I get this same error.  Does anyone have a work around?

Thanks!

I don't know, it worked for me...

Have you both gotten your beta invite and uploaded some music already?  Are you using the apk posted here, or did you download from the market with the build.prop mod?

I changed build.prop and downloaded the app from the market.  I have the music beta invite, have uploaded music, and have accessed them from two separate PCs.

Do you think I'd have more luck with the app posted here?  I assumed it was the same thing, just provided here for conveniences.  But maybe that was a bad assumption.

Thanks!

I'm using the market version, and its working fine.  I'd prefer that to manual apks if for no other reason than I don't have to mess with updating it.  Have you tried to get a logcat to see if it gives you more info about the sync error?

I reinstalled from the market and it linked OK this time.  I don't know what happened before.

Thanks for the help!  I'm listening to some Pink Floyd through the app now.  :)

Thanks for the suggestions! I just took the path of least resistance and side-loaded the app. Works great!

That's for that link!  Mine is working great.  If it's your first time starting it up, it force closes if you open it from anything that's not the app drawer.  And it works in landscape, you just have to start playing a song first.

Worked for me using this. Once in a while it force closes, but I can deal with it.

I got mine to work...had to download a Music .apk file, then tell the phone to use that as default Music handler.  I'm honestly not that impressed.  Maybe I would be if I unloaded all the music from my SD card, but I have a 16 GB Card, with about 10GB avail...so no need to.  I listen to more streaming music than from my card anyway.

Sorry to resurrect an older topic.

I tried the build.prop trick earlier today to get this to work and it didn't work for me.  Build.prop has the right line in it, but I can't find the app in the Market.  I installed it just fine from a downloaded .apk, so it obviously works.

Maybe Google has started only allowing certain phones to use the Music app?  Should I tweak the build.prop to say it's a Galaxy S or something?

Ideas?
