I had the gps issue.Lock and then loose the signal.Freeze up.
So i broke down and did the gps fix.It was unreal how well it works now.
Here is what i did. You need to download the sense rom below.It will work with clock work 3.0
   Mikfro-v4.5  ROM

Then you need to back up your data.
Install the the rom on the sd card and reboot into recovery.
Clear the cach,reset to factory.I didn't at first.Ended up in endless boot up loop.
Install the rom. The download from market MSL reader.Mine was 000000
Then open dial pad , ##GPSCLRX# enter MSL probably 000000 it will say password. reboot,
Then reboot into recovery clear cach reset to factory and then install the Cyanogen rom.
Reboot and it is done.I did it in 20 or so min.after finding a rom that would work with clockwork 3.0
Wish i had done it from the start.

Can I restore from a nandroid backup after doing this, or would it just break again?

If this is the GPS fix for CM7 betas then yes. I did exactly that with RC2 last yesterday. I did a NAND backup of my CM7 RC2, flahsed Fresh (Sense ROM) followed the steps then flashed my CM7 RC2 backup. It fixed my GPS. I wouldn't pick up any satellites before, after I picked up 9. I tested it out with Google Maps on my way home and it worked great.

You can use any rom with sense. Not just mikfroyo . Whatever you want. Xda developers has pages of roms for you to choose from.

I was frustrated last night using google nav when it kept loosing GPS that I went back to Mikfroyo.  Thanks to this fix I am back to CM7.  Works perfect...thank you.

u guys r awesome, i spend almost a week with the gps problem since i dont know too much about all this hacks but i follow this steps n i dont know how u guys figure all this stuff out  but yup it fix my gps n my tethering.  thank a lot

I just want to put a note on this topic.... After many tests if you do the steps on this forum and the gps still does not work you must make sure when you go back to CM7 you do a fresh load, basically dont restore a backup.  It has been hit and miss with different versions and setups of Evo's.  I have a group of friends (15 or so) and we noticed very different results with this fix.

I've tried this fix several times and it never does for me what everyone else says it does. I'm currently using the rom recommended above and when I put in the ## junk, it never asks for the MSL code. I did the above steps to the letter. Am I missing something?

I followed all of the above steps mentioned. Flashed mikfroyo 4.5 and put in the number and after updated prl and profile. Recovered my backup and the same problem was there. I am getting signal that is slightly off in google maps, but the gps navigation is not working!

I did all these steps and my GPS is still screwed even when I was on fresh and downloaded the msl reader and put in the code, I also updated my prl and profile. Then before restoring my backup of cm7 rc2 I checked to see if my GPS was working on the fresh sense rom I was on I have 3 g but it could not find a signal on both sprint and Google navigation. Ill try the process again but with mikfro 4.5

I do the fix before I flash a new version of cyanogen mod and it works for me. But I always install from scratch after fix. I never restore. I have a back up of fresh that I use. A slight pain but well worth it. I also use gps status and toolbox.to reset gps data and download assistance data also.

you do not do format system ?
I had issues where I would get in boot loop if I dont format that!

it asks for a password which is your msl code.

Hello,

None of this is working for me.

My steps:

-Rooted
-Clean install of CM7
-GPS not working > researched...
-Got my MSL code written down and prepared to go in...
-Backed up using Nandroid
-Wiped within Amon-RA (wipe data, cache, dalvik...)
-Installed Fresh ROM (as per instructions to fix GPS needed a sense based rom)
-Once Fresh rom installed, opened dialer > ##gpsclrx# > nothing... no pop-up, nothing.
-Tried the EPST.apk fix > same results no lock on postion.
-Installed GPS Stats > still no luck, same huge blue radial around my general position... no lock.


Are there steps I am missing?
Is this a persistent issue with CM7?
This is extremely frustrating as I heavily depended on GPS for daily use.

No those are the steps... Are you sure your using the sense dialer? It will work. The dialer code app is written into the sense dialer.apk so either your not doing it right or your dialer is corrupted! Ive seen many threads dealing with the dialer codes and it does work Ive used it twice. The only thing I can suggest is doing a caulkins all in one wipe and starting over with a fresh data and system file....

LOL. I just posted to gps fix in stable forum. That was my absolute last post to this issue. If they cant figure out how to do it then they need to go back to sense.......

I am making a stand there are very few things you need to know...How to use Clockwork or Amon Ra Recovery Tool and how to type things into google that's it...
As a community we have solved this problem! There are dozens of posts spread across 5 websites....http://www.google.com Please do some searching...
Unlikely anyone will make one for you unless they are doing the gps fix themselves and since most of us have already done it...SOL
