I've been told that 3.0.0.1 works fine in that respect, and I thought that  3.0.0.2 did as well.

Hmm.  Backups are working for me now with 3.0.0.5.

The CWM build that is linked in this thread's OP is, apparently, different than the version that was linked in the CM7 preview thread even though the version number is the same.  At any rate, this newer build of 3.0.0.5 is able to perform nandroid backups.

Pretty amazing that there aren't more issues being reported.

Still gonna wait a couple more nights.

I grabbed this one but couldn't flash it when coming from Iced Glacier (it didn't have flash_image, and when I put it on there it couldn't scan the partitions correctly).  So I used TrueBlue_Drew's methodology on XDA, and that got me 3.0.0.1.  I think I'll stay on that one since it works, but I'm glad to read that 3.0.0.5 is working too.  I'm hoping to stick it out until the CWM app gets updated with an "official" recovery that works, and then use that one for my normal backups.

You may have to reset your paid license.  Got to settings, and click on Device ID.  It should say "License Retrieved!"

I don't get any updates - told there are none for my ROM (last Preview).  Will this start working as soon as I flash a nightly?
I did that. And it still showed on my ROM Cyanogen Update screen that it was unsupported until i had prem licences. I wonder if it is because my PayPal account is different than my google name.

Have you tried fixing permissions?

I was on 3.0.0.2, but tried it so I would have an easy way to flash back and forth between 3>xxx and 2,xxx.  it now is able to be done within ROM Manager.  Also, the 3.0.0.5 version from his link also can format system, root, etc. - all other 3.xxx could not.

Honesty. Nope. I flashed backed to CM6.1.2RC2. I'll boot back into CM7N and give it a whirl.

update : did not work. Still showing "a ROM manager Premium licence is required "

For ClockWork Mod does the 3.x.x.x mean the version of Rom Manager we have or the number that comes up after we flash ClockWork Mod?

The number that comes up after you flash ClockworkMod Recovery.

If you boot into recovery and the text is orange, you're running the correct version.

Sorry, I was mistaken when I posted this.  A working version of ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5 for MT4G can be found here:

Oh wow, um, did you get the right recovery ROM installed yet (ClockworkMod 3.x.x.x with the orange text)?  The nightlies aren't tested or anything like that, but they seem stable enough.  So...

You need recovery ROM
You need the latest build (the number is at the far right)
You backup what you have in nandroid
You flash away.

The real way this has worked out for most of us is that we've already rooted and were running an older version of CWM recovery.  So, we backed up our Froyo-based ROM (be it stock or whatever) and get that out of the way.  Then we flash the recovery to 3.0.0.x and from there, flash the CM7 nightly.  It's probably the worst situation you can be in for doing this new.  Might want to wait for a stable ROM instead.

Sorry for that response reread it and understood what you mean lol. I did flash into 3.0.0.5. Just gonna install it see how it goes, if anything i'll install one when a stable rom is out.

When you do a wipe, do you select "wipe data/factory reset" or "wipe cache partition"?

Wipe data.  That will wipe cache too.

First let me say that I have been using CM, in various versions, on my G1, for a year and a half.  I have kept up to date with all the latest developments (Custom MTD, Apps2SDext, 2.22.28.25 radio, each successive newest SPL, etc.)  So, I am not a newb by any stretch of the imagination.

I just got my MT4G a couple of weeks ago and immediately perma-rooted it.  But, so far, I haven't flashed a CM version.  I guess I was waiting to be sure there was SOME stability to the builds.

Now I find that I have gotten somewhat attached to the stock interface.  Yes, I know it is full of bloat-ware.  Yes, I know it tends to keep everything, and the kitchen sink, running in background.  But, I kind of like the Genius button.  And I can put up with "My Favs" button at the botton.  Over all, I am pretty well impressed by the way HTC put the Sense interface together.  Stuff just seems to work together well.  I am not unhappy with the stock phone.

So, my question is this:  What am I going to loose, and what will I gain by flashing CM 7.  Having run CM6 on my G1, I have a pretty good idea what is in there.  But, I would like for someone who has made this transition from Sense to CM to review the pluses and minuses. . . . . if you don't mind too much.  I have always loved and supported CM, and tend to like being on the cutting edge.  But I have never been one to flash the newest version just for the sake of having something new.

Also, if I upgrade to CWM 3.0.0.5 and make a nandroid, I should be able to restore to stock Sense if I am unhappy with CM7, right?  I ask only because I saw a notice somewhere that you can't go backwards from CM7 to CM6 without also reverting to CWM 2.x.x.x.

And, finally, how is the battery life with CM7 compared to stock?

Thanks very much for your input.

First off, you will lose Genius Button.  I was able to get it working (somewhat) under the CM6 RC2 build but it just force-closes when I try it under CM7.  It sucks, I know.

You're also going to lose a few UI features.  You won't have the ability to set a separate image for your lock screen.  You won't have the "silence ringer when phone is picked up" option.  There may be a few other things you'll miss.

I don't know if CWM 3 is able to do nandroid backups of the stock ROM.  I had initially installed CM6 on my phone so the nandroid backups I made of the stock ROM were done with CWM 2.5.1.2.

Battery life in CM7 is significantly better than the stock build.  I seem to get somewhat better battery life with CM6 but CM7 is still a dramatic improvement over stock.
