I was not impressed with everything I saw about the SIII. Once it was announced and I read a few reviews, I immediately decided to get the HTC One X.

But to each there own. I hope your phone is awesome and that you get a CM9 build sooner than it took for us.

Got my Pebble Blue SGS3 today. Rooted within two hours :D
Here's some screenshots for you, Temasek.

Doesn't feel as good a quality as the HTC One X, but it's very nice and feels solid. Great screen and very light.

Nice! Thanks for sharing.

About CM9 on the N1, from https://plus.google....sts/RiRXpWwHRX7
"# Nexus One: For the time being, the N1 will not be supported. We can get it to build/boot/run, but the hacks required break Google's CTS, so until that is rectified, you won't see any release build with CM's official stamp of approval."

That's too bad, but I figured it was going to happen. But it looks like they haven't decided to fully drop it yet, so there may still be a chance (although, it does leave us in limbo longer).

Just hoping my HTC One X gets official nightlies soon. The builds on xda are getting pretty stable and mostly bug free :)

Interesting follow-up on why they aren't willing to just "make it work". And CTS stands for Compatibility Test Suite.

Quote

To piggy back on our comment about the N1 and CTS, Ricardo describes why we don't just shrug off that requirement.

Because it opened a can of worms that can’t be closed again. Getting it to work needed some very ugly workarounds that directly go against Google’s compatibility document for ICS. An app developer targeting ICS as a minimal version for his apps has the right to expect some functionality to be guaranteed on a device that claims to be ICS, that wasn’t (and isn’t) true for ICS builds with these hacks. That’s one the main reasons CM9 does not officially include a bunch of devices that are “working.”

...and some users understand that, but a lot don’t, and they’ll submit error reports on those apps, or they’ll rate it badly at the Play store. This is not a hypothetical scenario, it has happened whether we like it or not, asked for it or not, CM’s userbase is large enough to matter, even if you don’t count derivatives. We have a responsibility not to cause that kind of grief to app developers and we did. With all the mostly bullshit talk about fragmentation, we actively contributed to a break in the platform, no matter how small. That’s not a good thing :X People SHOULD know these builds contain hacks, but you’ve surely realized by now that they don’t.

I'll go on vacation soon, and I need my phone there, but when I come back I am going to look into getting one of the ICS builds on xda running on my N1.
I haven't got a new phone yet. The One X looks very interesting, though.

CM9 works great on the SGS3. (Sorry for the offtopic, but I feel that N1 talk has gone down a bit :P)

Sorry, i don't understand one thing: where can i find infos about nightlies?
I mean, for example, what are the new functions introduced by cm-7-20120624-NIGHTLY-passion?
Is there a place where i can make questions about nightlies? Maybe this room is the right place?

Nightlies are built automatically by a build bot (although, the CM7 nightlies are turning more into weeklies). There may not be any changes from previous versions, but the links ernie posted will tell you about any changes made since the previous one.

This thing of the build bot is really interesting ;) Didn't know that!

I'll go on vacation soon, and I need my phone there, but when I come back I am going to look into getting one of the ICS builds on xda running on my N1.
So, I am slowly preparing for it...
The first step is repartitioning the internal flash, since ICS needs more system space.
Installing the Blackrose hboot, and repartitioning worked without too much trouble.
Discussion of Blackrose is here: http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1270589
The few things to watch for: Installing Blackrose for some reason killed my cwm recovery, but that was replayed easily with fastboot. The Linux Blackrose tool didn't like resizing, but launching the editor directly (editor param) allowed me to resize the partitions, 220MB for system, 10MB for cache, rest for data, as recommended in http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1366897
For now, I just restored CM7 from backup.

The second step, actually installing TexasIce (http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1366897) or BCM (http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1557606) hopefully in a couple of days. They seem to be using a modified a2sd, but I'm using simple2ext. So, I may have to modify some files, but that shouldn't be a big issue.

BCM ICS is working fine now on my N1. Stable and fast.
I had to restore to factory settings, then install BCM, then restore the apps with TitaniumBackup, making sure to not restoring Gingerbread-specific apps.
I also tried TexasIce, but got into problems with that, it said that there wasn't enough space available to install anything from the market.

What is working and what not? I'm asking because I'm also interested to try it as a upgrade.

Having used ICS for the last few months on a Sensation, I'd be hesitant to recommend it unless there's a compelling app-related reason you want to install it.  I've yet to find any upside over GB, and I think the interface tweaks are a step backwards in some respects.  For example, switching input methods in ICS is a ball-ache, you no longer have the long-press option to switch, you have to go into the keyboard settings and change it there.  I also prefer the GB app-switching screen using the long press on Home.  Overall, I'd describe ICS as generally less intuitive to use than GB.

Of course, lots of the UI stuff is subjective. Some people like it, some don't.

Most apps seem to be fine so far. Haven't tried all my apps yet, though.
Swype FCed, which wasn't much of a surprise since it is probably tied closely to the system. A reinstall fixed it.
I had been using an old launcher, Home++, which had been abandoned by its developer 2 years ago. Not surprisingly, that launcher failed to run.
Also, the CM launcher, Trebuchet, FCed on me a lot. That's the only unstable thing in the ROM. I am now using the Apex launcher.
What I am missing is screen calibration, i.e., render effects in CM7. Don't know if there's an app for that.

if you find an app for the render effects let me know that's why I've gone back to cm7 twice now. I keep hoping they'll add it to a nightly but haven't seen it yet

It's official: No official CM9 for the N1: https://plus.google....sts/MRnnvs3oFUF
There are unofficial CM9 ROMs for the N1, of course, like the BCM ROM I am using.
There are also alpha versions of Jelly Bean for the N1 on XDA.

Is there any mod/app that makes the sound recording work when recording videos?
