Probably not.

Locked bootloader = no cyanogenmod. You can thank the wonderful people at Motorola for that.

I obviously might be wrong considering that the phone isn't even released yet, but it's probably pretty safe to assume this...

I know exactly what your going through. I too have been on ATT with N1 since the release of NAM N1.  I needed the 3g data.  Back then t-mobile didn't offer 3g.  However there are options now.  I am not bound to a contract with ATT at this moment but I am in a great plan.  Three lines and data plan under 90 dollars.

But since the new release of terra 2 dual core processor I am all over the atrix.  However I am also afraid that dev. on the atrix will be limited to the lock bootloader.  Koush has a bootstrap tool to flash custom roms but no mod kernels and such.  Once the release of dual core phone I gonna wait and see which phone cm will support.  I do hope there is a good devsupport through xda or something.  It will be a shame no one will support a fine piece of equipment.

Is it just wishful thinking to hope that moving away from the omap to the new tegra 2 chipset could result in an unlocked bootloader? What's the point of that anyway? Is Moto just trying to piss us off?

Question: If I ROM the Atrix will i still be able to use it as a webtop?

I would like to see the cyanogen rom for the atrix have the ability to still use it as a webtop. Would it even be possible to make a ROM that would incorporate that source code?

Edit: This will probably get moved to the general discussion forum, it's not Droid related...
My two cents: it's too early to say whether a CM dev will support the Atrix--but if they do Cyanogen and crew aren't in the business to break the functionality of a phone or app... The Atrix sounds pretty sweet... if only on Verizon here!
Funny but I'm pretty sure my next purchase will be influenced by whether it's cyanogenmodable!

For sure. And I should say that my next phone will definitely be based on whether it's likely to get CM support... I'm trying to talk myself out of a xoom for $$ purposes, but it looks so smooth that I'd probably get it regardless of CM support. I think it's mostly vanilla honeycomb, though, so that could be part of it.

Hello Guys,

I am sure most of You heard about the Motorola Atrix 4g lunching with ATT. I have A quick question.

Can anyone tell me if the phone can be working with full function on T-mobile Network? I heard some says yes and some says no

If I buy it from ATT without contract do I have to unlock the SIM card by myself or will the ATT unlock it for me ?

I had a contract with T-mobile  and I can not just break it and I also like their service :)

Thank you

T-Mobile uses a different broadcast band for data so you can use the phone for voice but you won't get 3g/4g data.

Everything will work except for 3G data (you can still use 2G data).

I realize devs need to get their hands on new phones in order to port CM to them. What if we set up a donation fund to buy the CM team a few Atrix 4g's or whatever other phones people want modded? I am certain enough people want/have the phones and are Jonesing like I am for a CM port. Any thoughts? Paypal? Bake sale? Bikini car wash? Whatever it takes...

x4 would be happy to. had magic & n1, and am probably getting it & lapdock today. gingerblur seems to be the best for me as of now but def going to miss cyanogen and mods that come with it. plus the 1st tegra/power, the versatility would ve been right up their alley ^_^ it would be blazing

It has a locked bootloader, so it will never get supported.

I have hope that motorola will unlock the bootloader, and Cyanogen begin to develop to this phone. I really don't like the stock room!

According to Kholk, the man responsible for the kexec, this will allow for custom kernels. Will we finally be able to have CM7 on the Atrix?
