I just rooted two nights ago and flashed the latest stable cyanogenmod. Everything works great except my wi-fi connection. It always says I have full signal but sometimes it just cuts out and won't do anything and then ten minutes later its back to normal. But everything connection related stops working, browser, market, updates, etc. It all works fine with 3G.

Does it work normally with other Wi-Fi devices you have? My first thought was that your router might be going bad.

Yeah I thought of that too, but laptops, gaming systems all work and I also tried restarting the router.

Hrm, can you restore back to the Stock 2.1 Sense ROM and see if it still has an issue? I'm confused as to why CM would be doing this, though I have seen some weird stuff.

My WiFi has been acting stange on my home network and won't even connect since Build 48.  I connect just fine at work and other hotspots.  My first thought was that there must be something wrong with the ROM connecting to a WEP secured device.  After for testing I found that it was in deed my Wifi Router/Cablemodem that is dropping out at alarming rates.  Since I use direct push on my phone it was easy to see that my phone wouldn't connect because of my hardware.  Computers are more resillient and reconnect quicker than the phone does and that makes it hard to notice a problem like that.  I'd replace your WiFi!

Well I actually tried to restore back to stock the other night when i first rooted because I was really scared I messed up. But no RUU has been released yet for US Cellular customers on Desire CDMA. Right now it's connecting fine, but it's just random.

Thanks for the advice but I don't think its the wifi. It's really just random. It's connecting fine now and I thought it was just slow at waking up and connecting but it connects as soon as I unlock my phone now. But an hour ago I couldn't even refresh facebook. So I have no idea whats going on with it.

It sounds to me like you might be getting interference problems. There's all kind of possible interference, but as a start you might check out the app Wifi Analyzer to see if a another network is overlapping your broadcast channel.

If it looks okay, you might try changing your router's channel just for experiment's sake.

I know for a fact I don't have this problem. As I use wifi all the time. Been doing so since like nightly 30 something. I can even lay it right on the laptop and nothing happens. Have you tried a different channel on your router? I am using wpa though. I thought I had seen something somewhere about wep and cm6 having problems but could be wrong.

By the way you don't need a ruu to restore back to stock. All you need is you back up as I have uscc. I think ennon might also.

So far thats helping. I used the wifi analyzer and found a better channel to switch to and haven't had any problems yet. I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks 2fast. blk might have found my solution. Thats good to know I don't need a ruu. Everywhere I had read kept talking about using a ruu to get back to stock so that's what had me thinking that. Thanks for the info. This forum is so helpful.

Hey I recommended the channel change :) It is best with any router to change the channel like around me everyone has frontier or a linksys router. The frontiers run I believe channel 6. In which I pick up like 10 of them to be honest. I believe I set mine to channel 1 I think. Not sure been to long but it was one of the 3 recommended.

As far as the ruu. You have been missed informed. When you root it voids the warranty. As long as you made a back up you can restore it at any point in time. If cmtd was used it needs installed first. Well why you see the ruu talk. It is because everyone wants one to restore the warranty. As it will wipe root out. Which is honestly a big plus. I still don't really understand why root voids your warranty besides overclocking.

Sorry about that, you both suggested that so I must give you credit as well  :). But so far it's not working as I had thought. I also noticed my 3G toggle switch was left on while it was connected to wifi so I disabled it but still no change. Is there a setting that like makes the wifi connection go into a sleep mode? Thats what it acts like except that it takes quite a bit longer to connect as I expect. But then other times I can wake my phone unlock, and everything works instantly. So I'm really not sure. By the way channel 1 is my best as well so I switched to it.

While in the wifi settings menu press the menu button on your phone and select advanced. It's in there.

Wow. I learned something. Haha, thanks for that, I was wondering if there was an option to turn WiFi sleep off :P

Thanks for that. I checked it but it was already set to never sleep. So I'm really not sure whats going on but its annoying because I cant use wifi half of the time. I think I'm gonna try going back to Stock. If I wanted to just reinstall the cyanogen ROM what steps would I follow? Do I somehow delete the one thats on here and then flash it or can I just reflash it?
