Hi Everyone,

I have a HTC Dream today with pre install Android 1.6, and i willing to upgrade the firmware into Cyanogenmod-5.0.7, but i cant find any tutorial to help me out. Is anyone may teach me on this?

I saw the the msg from the firmware download page:-

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM-5?
1. Root your device and install Clockwork Recovery (ROM Manager on the market) or Amon_RA's recovery (Dream / Magic)
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. Install the DangerSPL if you don't already have it
4. WIPE (I cannot guarantee an upgrade from CM-4.2 to CM-5 will work)
5. Install the ROM
6. Optionally install the Google Addon if you want Google Applications like Gmail and Market

But what i not understand is
1. Do i need a MicroSD card to proceed this upgrade? And should i connect the device to computer using USB cable? Do i need any software to do this?
2. How to root my device?
3. Where should i download clockwork recovery/ Amon RA's recovery, as this is plain machine with no personal data, should i make a backup?
4. The nandroid backup is using a clockwork recovery or Amon RA's revovery?

Thanks in advance.

once you have the recovery installed and hit the 'chosing to install dangerspl' part, click that link and follow those instructions. Be sure to flash a 2.x radio after rooting and before flashing DangerSPL. The wiki is still being updated for cm5, but the g1 rooting page has been modified with that option so far.

1. Yes you will need a MicroSD card. If you plan on using Apps2SD, then you will need a Class 4 or Class 6 card (Class 6 is recommended). If you want to know what class you have, it is usually indicated on the card itself.
